Madara said naruto (after his fight with pein) was stronger then sasuke, who had already beaten itachi. I personally believe nagato is stronger then itachi, but I know many fan boys beg to differ, achievement wise? Nagato was for sure bigger, as he defeated whole village and was presumed leader of akatsuki. Itachi was also big, but itachi's two biggest crimes were uchiha massicure, *big but not as relevant as destruction of a full village* and joining akatsuki *still a step behind as nagato was the presumed leader. Except lets not forget that Itachi would've killed Sasuke if that was his intent.
Itachi died from over use of the Susano.
