Naruto's inspiration came from the pass Hokages, the drive to surpass them. Kurama is Naruto's power, Sasuke depend on his Sharingan 99.99% of the time. Both the Sharingan, the Sage's eyes, and Naruto's body, the Sage's body all were passed down by the Sage. The Sage passed down his eyes to his older son and his body to his younger son plus created the 9 Bijuus and passed down the sealing jutsu to become a Jinchuuriki. Bijuus being sealed in their bodies is the same as controlling Bijuu's with their eyes. Same thing, take away Kurama is like taking away the Sharingan's abilities, both were passed down and wouldn't be there if the Sage didn't pass them down. Both are mere tools that a ninja can use.
