Chapter 8: Team Shikamaru’s power!
Asuma: They’re coming!
Still engaged in a battle against six ninjas from an unknown village, in the middle of the desert, Shikamaru, Temari and Asuma were shocked with their enemies’ techniques.
Unknown Ninja #1: What’s the matter?
Unknown Ninja #2: All that big talk a few minutes… was it only to hide the fact you’re a bunch of cowards?
Temari: Say that again! I dare you!
Shikamaru: Easy, Temari…
Unknown Ninja #3: Heh… Are you going to give up now?
Temari: Why? Are you afraid of fighting us?
Unknown Ninja #1: Tsch… You sure talk big…
Asuma: It’s time we get serious, sensei!
Asuma: I’m going, again!
Reaching for his leg pouch and withdrawing his father’s trench knives, Asuma charged straight at the group of shinobi in front of him.
Shikamaru: Asuma, wait!
Contradicting his sensei’s words, Asuma kept heading straight at his enemies, still holding the chakra blades on his hands.
Asuma: Sensei, sorry, but I cannot, I will not let these guys taunt us without getting anything in return! I’ll show them what we’re capable of! I’ll make my dad proud!
Two ninjas leaped off towards Asuma while the latter was still running, these ninjas withdrew the swords they carried on their back as counter to Asuma’s blades.
Unknown Ninja #4: Taste this, you lousy brat!
Asuma: …
The masked ninja charged at Asuma with his sword, swinging it from above Asuma. However, Asuma used his own blades to stop the sword’s slash with his hands raised above his head while holding the chakra blades in an X-figure.
Shikamaru: I guess it can’t be helped… What a drag…
Unknown Ninja #5: You forgot about me, you damn brat!
Coming from Asuma’s front was the other ninja with a sword on his left hand. He took advantage of the opportunity and charged at Asuma while he was with his hands raised to block the ninja’s partner’s attack, leaving his torso wide open for a slash from the shinobi's sword.
Temari: Wind Style…
Shikamaru: Shadow…
Asuma: Take this then!
Asuma: Fire Style: Burning Ash
Unknown Ninja #5: Uh?!
Asuma spew a stream of chakra infused gun-powder from his mouth, which surrounded the region around his enemy, completely engulfing him in a cloud made entirely of ash.
Unknown Ninja #5 (thinking): Ash?! It won’t affect my breathing if that’s what he’s after… My mask prevents it.
Asuma: One down!
While saying this, Asuma used a flint he had placed in his teeth before leaving the Hidden Sand to create a spark, igniting the ash cloud which resulted in a violent explosion, burning his enemy with it.
Shikamaru: Heh…
Temari: Looks like he can take care of himself.
Shikamaru (thinking): You’ve grown, Asuma!

Sitting at the training field, looking into the sky while the sun was setting, was Shikamaru and little boy; it was Asuma, a younger Asuma.
Asuma: Shikamaru-sensei…
Shikamaru: Uh?!...
Asuma: What type of person was my father?
Shikamaru: Heh… Well, he was always a laid-back guy who liked to avoid being involved in troublesome things unless he had to…
Asuma: Like you!
Shikamaru: Hehehe… Yes, like me.
Asuma: And what else?
Shikamaru: Why are you asking me this? Your mother could tell you, you know?
Asuma: I asked her once, but she said if there was someone who really knew my dad was you, Shikamaru-sensei.
Shikamaru: Kurenai-sensei said that?!
Asuma: Yes… She always says I look like him, but she never tells me anything about the type of person he was…
Shikamaru: Heh… That’s probably because it feels so weird to her… Looking at you, the spitting image of your father, and talking about him… It must be like telling a person about that person’s own personality…
Asuma: I see... So, it feels weird to her, uh?
Shikamaru: It feels weird to me as well, Asuma.
Asuma: Heh… I’m glad I look like him…
Shikamaru: Why so?
Asuma: Well, because of his good looks he got a beautiful woman like my mom, which means I'll end up with a girl like her! Hahaha
Shikamaru: Hahaha… So, now that you’re a genin, ready to be my disciple?
Asuma: Yup! Can’t wait, sensei!
Shikamaru: Heh…
Asuma: But… Sensei… Can you do me one thing?
Shikamaru: What is it?
Asuma: Teach me one of my dad’s techniques! I want to be as strong as he was!
Shikamaru: Hmm…
Asuma: Please, Shikamaru-sensei!
Shikamaru (thinking): I guess I could ask Konohamaru to teach him Asuma-sensei’s Fire Style.
Shikamaru: Alright! Hehehe…
Asuma: You’re the best, sensei!
The two remained sit, enjoying the sun set at the training field, laughing at each other and chatting for hours…

Shikamaru (thinking): Sensei… Looks like your king turned out just fine!
After the explosion’s smoke cleared out, a ninja was revealed to be lying down on the ground, lifeless and with his black robe almost completely burned and still smoking from the blast…
Asuma: It’s your turn now! Take this!
Asuma’s trench knives gained a bluish glow after the latter infused them with his chakra, augmenting the killing power of the blades.
Asuma: Flying Swallow
Asuma engaged himself in a Taijutsu battle against the shinobi who attacked him from above. The sound of Asuma’s blades clashing with the ninja’s sword generated an echo, heard by everyone in that battlefield.
Unknown Ninja #4: You’re good, kid! However… Uh?!
Before he could finish speaking the man wearing the headband with the spiraling pattern found himself shocked as he saw his own sword breaking… Asuma’s blades damaged his sword to the point it broke into pieces.
Unknown Ninja #4 (thinking): My sword… It broke?!
Asuma: Whoaaaaaa…
After breaking his enemy’s sword, Asuma went for the knockout blow and kicked the ninja in front of him in the head with his right leg.
Unknown Ninja #4 (thinking): To be beaten by a brat…
The ninja was sent flying for several meters until he fell on his back, completely knocked out…
Unknown Ninja #1: You’ve done it now, kid!
Unknown Ninjas (altogether): Dark Style: Malicious Wave
The remaining four enemies were all holding the same hand seal; they were executing a Collaboration Ninjutsu. However, that strange type of technique, again… Dark Style…
Unknown Ninja #4: You’re all dead now!
Coming out of the sand beneath their feet, a dark and strange smoke-type thing was gathering in front of the four ninjas.
Unknown Ninja #2 (thinking): This technique will kill everyone and everything that gets in its way. It will suck the life out of anyone!
Unknown Ninja #2 (thinking): However, unlike Kurai-sama, it takes all four of us to do it!
Unknown Ninja #1: Take this!
Unknown Ninjas: Die!
The dark smoke formed a gigantic wave that went straight at Shikamaru and the others.
Shikamaru: Temari, let’s do that! Asuma, get behind us!
Asuma: Heh, are you going to do your famous husband-wife combo? I always wanted to know what it is!
Temari: Uh?! What kind of name is that?!
Shikamaru: Temari, hurry!
Doing as his sensei said, Asuma positioned himself behind Shikamaru and Temari. Meanwhile, Temari withdrew her Giant Folding Fan from her back and opened it fully, showing the three moons drawn on it.
Temari: I’m ready, do it, Shikamaru!
Shikamaru: Shadow Possession Jutsu
Shikamaru’s shadow connected with Temari’s fan, which was lodged in the ground. Suddenly, Temari’s folding fan increased in size as it was completely covered by Shikamaru’s shadow and extended by it. It seemed like the shadow itself had materialized into a fan.
Temari: Our Jutsu increases the size of my fan using Shikamaru’s shadow manipulation.
Asuma: I see…
Shikamaru: With it, she creates an enormous air current capable of repelling anything no matter how big and strong the technique is. Do it, Temari.
Temari: Wind Style: Shadow Tempest
Using the extended shadowy fan, Temari created an enormous air current, so powerful that the air became thicker and visible, that clashed with the malicious wave and repelled it back to its casters.
Unknown Ninja #3: What?! How's it possibe?! This jutsu can't be reppelled or dodged! How did they?!
Unknown Ninja #4: It’s coming…
Unknown Ninja #1: … this way!
Hit by their own Jutsu, the four ninjas saw their own life force being sucked out of their bodies by the dark wave, which after hitting them, vanished into thin air.
Asuma: Amazing!
Shikamaru: Besides repelling everything back to its caster, this technique also deals damage to the enemy since it consists of an air current so thick it can cut mountains.
Shikamaru: Although, in this case, that won't matter since those guys were already killed by their own Jutsu.
Temari: Be buried by the sand surrounding you, losers!
Shikamaru: You really scare me sometimes, you know?

Naruto: So, you’re the one who sent those two…
???: Yes, I am.
Isamu: But, he’s just a kid, like us!
Makoto: Yeah… But he’s got a platoon and we don’t!
Naruto’s Team 7 finally reaches its destination and finds itself faced with the mastermind behind the ambush they almost fell in, but he’s a kid, the same age as Naruto's students?! And behind him, dozens of shinobi stand, ready to battle!!!
