Naruto Origins: Orochimaru
What!, the boy cried out in disbelief. The messenger tried to comfort him, but the words he spoke sounded as if they were a different language. With those few little words Orochimaru's happy existance was thrown into dissarray. The messenger places his hands on the young boy's shoulders to try and comfort the boy, but it was to no avail. Nothing could calm his mind, not at a time like this. The messenger continued to speak, but Orochimaru didn't listen. He only looked around the room searching for a source of comfort, hopeing his parents would walk through the door and this would all be a cruel joke. They never came.
Hiruzen walked thought the village on his way to grab some lunch. He was particularly hungry that day. His students have been progressing quickly. They showed great apptitude. Each possesed thier own unique qualities. Tsunade had great chakra control. She could use any technique without wasting any chakra, which greatly increased her stamina. Jaraiya was so full of life. His energy and stubborness made him almost impossible to keep up with. Then there was Orochimaru. He showed the most promise out of the three. He received the highest marks in the academy, and was leaps ahead of the others. His combat strategy and ninjutsu skill were unparralleled by any of his classmates. Hiruzen wasn't one to play favorites, but Orochimaru was becoming the shinning star of the group. Hiruzen's thoughts were interrupted when a chunnin rushed towards him.
"Hiruzen, the Hokage instructed me to tell you that the parents of your pupil, Orochimaru, were recently killed in action."
"Thank you for informing me" Hiruzen replied, " I will go see him at once." This news disturbed Hiruzen, and he immediatly rushed to Orochimaru so that they could talk. He arrived at Orochimaru's place shortly, and walked in. Orochimaru was sitting on his parent's bed with his head hanging down. Hiruzen walked in and sat next to his student. He began to speak softly to Orochimaru. "I'm sorry for your loss, losing a loved one is a terrible thing for anyone, especially for one a young as yourself." Orochimaru did not reply, so Hiruzen continued. "I can't imagine what you are going through right now, but I want you to know that I am here for you if you need anything." Still silent, Orochimaru sat, not moving a muscle. Hiruzen then tried to cheer up his student. " What you need now is a distraction, so at the end of the week we will be doing a special training session that I think would really help." Orochimaru looked up slightly and gave small smile, which helped put Hiruzen at ease. After Hiruzen left, Orochimaru noticed a picture of his parents and himself on the wall. He walked over to it and grabbed it from the wall to look at it closer. He was so happy and so were his parents. A tear hit the glass of the frame and rolled towards the corner of the picture. As he went to place the picture back on the wall he noticed an indention in the wall. He placed his hand on the indention and to his suprise his hand continued to move past where the wall should have been. As his hand traveled past the paper concealing this compartment he noticed there was something inside. He pulled out a large scroll from the wall. Orochimaru's mind raced wondering what was writen on the scroll. The word "Hebi" was writen on the outside of the scroll. As he opened the scroll all he could see was a list names. As the end of the list neared, he recognized one of the names. It was his father's. Under his father's name were fingerprints of blood.
Orochimaru woke in a cold sweat. He had the same dream every night. He hated the constant subconcious reminders of his lonelyness, and even though they were only dreams, he could still feel every ounce of pain as if the tragedy had just happened. A quick glance over to the clock showed that it was hours before his alarm was set to wake him. He canceled the alarm and got up to make himself some breakfast. Returning to sleep was no longer an option. He could not bare another dream about his parents. After breakfast, Orochimaru walked to the training field, he could not think of anything else he wanted to do, and getting back on a normal routine helped distract him from his grief. Sensei had told him there would be a special training today. He hoped it would be a new technique that he could add to his arsenal. He arrived at the training field, and the sunrise lit the area in a beautiful light blue, while the sky showed orange, yellow and pink. Orochimaru usually loved to see the sunrise, but now it seemed as if the importance and beauty was ripped from it, leaving only empty colors.
A few hours later, Hiruzen arrived, followed shortly after by Tsunade. About ten minutes later, Jaraiya showed up, late as usual, and Hiruzen began to tell them about thier special training.
"You three have been my students for about a year now," Hiruzen began. "So I would like to see how your teamwork skills have improved. Today we will be doing the bell test agian." Orochimaru was dissapointed. He had been through this exercise before and felt that reworking it would be a waste of time. He wanted more than just teamwork. He wanted power and that was not done by running drills, or helping people weaker than himself. It was done by real training and learning new techniques. Training commenced and they began thier team attack. Tsunade began by making two clones of herself which surrounded Hiruzen. Thier sensei knew that her strength was increasing and did not want to get hit by her. The plan was for her to distract thier sensei, while Orochimaru attacked with kunai with string to bind him, while Jaraiya pounced from a tree above to catch him off guard and grab the bells. Everything was going to plan when Jaraiya lost his balance and fell from the tree. The plan was ruined and Orochimaru was outraged. "You moron!" he shouted, "That's why your ass was tied to the post last time." Orochimaru decided he has tolerated enough of this. He was tired of always having to compensate for his teammate's shortcommings. Orochimaru bit his thumb and slammed his hand on the ground. Smoke plumed and a king cobra appeared next to him. Jaraiya, Tsunade and Hiruzen stood motionless. None of them knew that he had the ability to summon that creature. Orochimaru took the opportunity to attack. The snake spat poison at Hiruzen, which was immediatly dodged, but in that moment he hesistated. In that hesitation, the snake had wrapped around Hiruzen and bound him. Hiruzen was taken aback and looked at his pupil, and when he stared into Orochimaru's eyes, he saw an evil intent to kill, which paralyzed him in fear. "Genjutsu..." Hiruzen muttered to himself. He instantly released the genjutsu, but by that time Orochimaru was sitting on a nearby log, holding both of the bells. The snake vanished, and the test was over.
Hiruzen was in awe by what he had just witnessed. "When and how did he learn to summon creatures." He thought to himself. Approaching Orochimaru, he said, "Impressive, but this exercise was about teamwork." "I don't need them", Orochimaru replied "They do nothing but hold me back. What I need is power. I need to learn more jutsu so that I can become stronger. If only my parents were stronger they would be here with me." tears began to build in his eyes. "If they knew more jutsu, maybe they would have survived. I will never let that happen to me."
"What do you mean?", Hiruzen asked.
"I am going to learn every jutsu known to man so that I can become powerful, and no one will ever be able to kill me!"
"The true power of a ninja is not the number of jutsu that he knows", Hiruzen began, "Rather, it's the strength in thier heart, and thier ability to fight for what they believe in."
"You are wrong!" Orochimaru was beginning to sound angry. "My parents had some thing to fight for and they still died!" By this time the tears were flowing steadily from Orochimaru's eyes, but he did not wipe the tears away. He was focused on Hiruzen. "You cannot play chess with only pawns. You need different peices for different situations, and this is no exception. You may think that one can get by with hopes and wishes, but not me. I know that the more jutsu you have the stronger you are." With those final words, Orochimaru stormed off, leaving his sensei behind to wallow in the fact that he was losing control of his student.
It was a particularly beautiful day. The sun was out and its rays were hitting Hiruzens face softly as he was waiting for his students to arrive. Training had begun agian, but this time, Orochimaru was nowhere to be seen. It was unusual for Orochimaru to be late for training. Usually, it was Jaraiya holding everything up. Hiruzen instructed Tsunade to help Jaraiya practice his chakra control, as he went to find Orochimaru. He knew there was only once place he would be.
Hiruzen walked up to his student as he was kneeling by his parents grave. He knew he would find him there. Orochimaru was never late for training and this could be the only thing more important at the moment. As Hiruzen approched, he noticed that Orochimaru was holding something in his hands.
"Ooh, good eye", Hiruzen said. "That's a white snake's molten skin."
"I have never see one before", Orochimaru replied.
Hiruzen chuckled and said, "Heheh... me neither. They're extremely rare. Very hard to find." This was the first time Hiruzen saw something other than anguish in the poor boy's eyes. Orochimaru wanted to know more about the snakeskin.
"How come it's white."
"I dont really know", Hiruzen replied. "No one's ever really thought to find out, but for years, they've been considered a symbol of good fortune and rebirth."
"good fortune... and rebirth...", Orochimaru began to stare at the snakeskin.
Hiruzen continued, "The fact that you found it on your parent's grave must be a sign... Perhaps they've been reborn in new bodies so that one day, when you've grown up, they can see you agian."
"When is that going to be?", Orochimaru asked with a peaceful look on his face.
"Haha, I'm afraid I don't know that, either." Hiruzen felt that his talk with Orochimaru helped him accept his parents death.
Orochimaru stared at the snakeskin as Hiruzen walked away. "Rebirth..." he thought to himself, and a plan began to form inside the mind of the genious child.
