I guess there are two ways to view it. o3o
There are many ways. From a political, pshychological, romantical, biblical point of view.
Sakura's confession chapter and the thing happening afterwards, they all meet these things.
But you just need to review them a bit in-depth to see those things.
That's all :)

Because this is what you'd think normally. Of course Kishi as an author wants to put a stop to people's thinking too much into it and twisting the minds by throwing up in the mix different so-called moments of other pairings.
Don't get me wrong, nothing to do with the other pairing candidates, it's just that it doesn't flicks, dunno how to say it.
It's all about chemestry, interaction, body language.
If you pay attention to all of those aspects you'll understand.
And that's the thing, in order to understand it better as a whole, you must re-read the manga.
I did so countless times, and not because of this, I did many readings for other purposes (mostly for vs threads, lol) but you can clearly see the connections with everything back then.
Sakura does have feelings for Sasuke still but there are not nearly as strong as they once were. Her feelings for Naruto overpower that(Proof: When Sasuke was critizing Kakashi, she was quiet. But
when he did that to Naruto, she grew angry and raised her voice towards Sasuke, defending against the man she supposedly loved more. Not only that but at the same time, she called out
Naruto's name unconsiously in worry, when Sasuke was the man she supposedly loved.)
The details are there, it;s just that we need to see them.
Sakura does have lingering affection towards Sasuke but she's not proud of it and Kishimoto isn't destroying her character (as most of the people perceive it) by bringing up her feelings for Sasuke. Quite the opposite. He's depicting her as a very compassionate person for still caring for a murderer as well as showning she's sickened by it.
The purpose of 540 was to show that Sakura's character isn't done yet but Kishi is planning on getting over her romantic feelings towards Sasuke and fully realizing as well as accepting her
love towards Naruto is stronger than her feelings for Sasuke.

Indeed, she's never going to let go of him like Naruto hasn't. As I said, it's part of their character, however this doesn't mean it has to be in a romantical way.
*sigh* yes, i know of this. Sometimes my love for my Otps gets the better of me. But I have been trying to think of it logically, re-reading the manga as you said, and its right that Sakura's feelings for Sasuke is wavering. But i still believe that she won't get over Sasuke, maybe it's just my opinion but who knows what's really happening in Kishimoto's mind other than himself? The love part still confuses me greatly. I don't know if she loves Sasuke more or Naruto more but there's a part of me that's sure that she loves them equally. but let's wait until the manga's out. i don't really want to assume things.

As I said, getting over Sasuke will be the same as Naruto giving-up on Sasuke.
She won't get over him, however, this doesn't mean that she will realise that her feelings are changed.
The confusion part is the tricky one here and it's that surprise element I keep telling about.
Let's be honest. Doesn't these unresolved things keep you up like " I WANNA KNOW NOW WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING?!" while it's not happening and you keep, keep waiting?
All I have to say, in this particular matter, until now, Kishi is a genius.

Well, he needs to be a genius so we want to read his manga to find out what's going to happen, and i think he knows this. Man, he's good.

He does that for a living. Every authors have to think of ways to trick the readers' minds and mess with them so they read their work.

It isn't Kishi's fault that people are not insightful (to not use other words). This manga has passed to the next level, it's not a manga destined to 10 years old playing Ninja.
Shippuden has a deeper meaning, a deeper resolution.
So yes, he is a genius, because look at everybody's reaction concerning pairings in the last chapters.
YAY NaruHina is cannon just because Hinata finally decided to get out her shell, thing that doesn't really mean Naruto will be with her, or Sakura thinking at Sasuke, OMFG It's SasuSaku, its' cannon, etc, when actually that emphasised another thing, tooooooooooooootally ignoring the development of Sakura and Naruto's characters. Especially Sakura's character in relate to Naruto.
We all knew Naruto is loving her, however, what about Sakura? What did she represent, what were her actions? In few words, what about Sakura?

The love triangle of Sakura/Sasuke/Naruto depicts the confusing and conflicting dualities of love and lust, true affection and infatuation, crush and commitment. Now, it is not to say that either character is more worthy of love, but whether or not their actions have justified the love of Sakura. I've heard it said that the choice is Sakura's alone in this case, but that isn't true. If it was, then the conflict basically wouldn't exist. Her choice is to either continue hoping for Sasuke's return and the return of her feelings, or to recognize and honor Naruto's feelings and acknowledge her growing affection.

Kishimoto's intention for Sakura is clearly in growth. Yes, as a ninja, but more as a mature person. That's why her starting point was one of shallow ambitions without giving credit where it is due, or in reality, thinking of anyone but herself. There was a point to that, and it was to show the dramatic gradation of her character growth from then until now. She went from fearing for her own life to having courage for the sake of others. She went from fickle and unstable emotions to a stalwart and caring heart. She went from harboring grudges in past rivalries to strengthening bonds because of them. She went from believing Ino's analogy of a budding flower signifying beauty, grace and charm to understanding that there are far more important, lasting qualities to strive for. She went from a shallow debutante to loving caregiver.

Now, at the very heart of her growth, we have the most ingrained part of her emotions: her love for Sasuke. Anyone can tell that her basis for "loving" him was the very same as every other girl: because he was elite, cool and handsome. It had no basis beyond that. Therefore, she was infatuated with him, she did not love him. We see how she shed so many tears of desperation for him, but really, can we call that emotional frailty a virtue? Or was it merely an immature heart, the sign of a naive little girl who had yet to understand what was truly important to her? Was it her caring for Sasuke, or was it the sycophantic behavior of a girl who places all value in the adoration of this young heartthrob, while having no value or respect for herself? Her saving grace was that Kishimoto had her grow since then, to face and fix her character flaws, as a heroine is supposed to do. This was his intention all along, and it can be seen clearly in context.

Some of the fans have said that she didn't start to love Sasuke until the forehead remark, which is why they place such importance on it for a NaruSaku justification. But it's not true, and to suggest it is to diminish the worth of her character. After all of her growth as a person, after the expansion of her maturity, having so much importance placed on that moment for its own sake is to say that her values never really changed, and that a shallow compliment still has such a major impact on her heart. Yes, I understand that it was a major insecurity for her, and that is what gives the compliment weight. But over time, she has attained greater insecurities, and she has overcome them. She felt insecure for her weakness, and she gained strength to overcome it. Naruto's acknowledgement of her growth beyond her insecurities of self-worth should, and does, hold far more worth than a compliment about a perceived physical flaw. And I know this will come to be evident. He may use that compliment as a recall, but it will merely be for a smile. It will not be the fulcrum on which her feelings turn, and it will not be the deciding moment which makes her love him. If anything, it will just trigger the memory of all the more important things her has done for her, all of the other way he has helped her grow.

Tsundere archyetype.
Yes, she is a Tsundere. And yes, I know what it means. Yes, I understand that her harshness toward Naruto was toward that end. But the thing about it is that the Tsundere archetype is merely a tool to develop her character, and lends nothing to context. It is far more beneficial to attribute her earlier harshness toward Naruto as one more mark of immaturity that she has since overcome. Her feelings are dramatically shifting. She is starting to understand that her infatuation for Sasuke had no susbstantial basis, and that love is much more than fantasies of cheesy romance. She is starting to understand Naruto's true value, regarding him as someone to confide in and trust instead of an annoyance. She is starting to see him as a hero, her "rock," and not a burden. She is starting to be proud of his strength instead of jealous of his growth in light of (what used to be) her inadequacy.

These are a major reasons why Naruto has made a much more lasting impression than Sasuke, and why he must be the one to win her heart. If he doesn't, then Kishimoto will have betrayed everything he has established to this point. Character growth, change, conflict and resolution, rising action and climax...all of it will be for naught, because the SS pairing will suggest that nothing has changed at all, especially for Sakura. It will be anticlimactic and a complete waste of everyone's time. And I don't see Kishi the kind of man to do it.

Sorry to put it in a Hinata thread, but the context brought it up.

Exactly. In this part he's very good.
I have my problems with him in other particular things of the manga but here, hat down, he's very good.

The hardest part of the Sakura confession argument is that we don't know what Kishi is planning.

It is entirely possible that her confession was completely honest as far as feelings, but hiding the hint on Sasuke.
It is entirely possible that it was an entire facade because she didn't want him to deal with Sasuke.

We fang read the brilliant Kishi's mind so we don't know which one is true.

Same with Sakura imagining Sasuke during Zetsu's infiltration of the Medical Corps.

Was she really thinking of Sasuke as the person she loved?
Was she thinking of Sasuke as the person she used to love?

Got to love Kishi XD! But being able to see all the different meanings behind simple words and phrases is what makes these debates so much fun lol!

And with people like you.
I know you're a NaruHina fan, I am as well, just that I prefer more NaruSaku. They have that chemestry for me, but I respect others opinions on WHY they favor this pairing as long as they leave Sakura's bashing out of it.
That's why you're one of my fav. members of this pairing.
I have NEVER seen you bashing Sakura in order to gain terrain for Hinata. Never!
And for that? My deepest respects.
And I mean it, even if it's just the internet. :)

I have to respond to this. I can't hold my thoughts in any longer. Why do you instantly think their development turned to friendly? It didn't at all. It was and still is romantic. Sakura's feelings are ambigious to an extent but there is clear evidence that Sakura harbors unrealized romantic affection towards Naruto. I'll point it out the proof right now: Unfinished sentence which clearly hinted more
than friends(That sentence wasn't even necessary. Why do it?), Sakura feeding Naruto when his arm was broken and she looked at him oddly(Considered romantic in Japan.), and Sakura hugged Naruto twice in front of crowds and was smiling happily then which is also considered romantic(Especially the first one. Even the people in the background were blushing). Don't say Sakura's confession was
a flat out lie. We don't know that and she obviously telling the truth to an extent. Sakura got furious when he called her out on lying and didn't even look nervous at all(Quote: "I'm the only one who knows
what I'm feeling!"-Sakura). Not only that, but she flat out stated that she doesn't want him to chase Sasuke if it means he'll be in danger and she meant that, telling a half truth. She put his feelings before hers. She then tried to kill Sasuke herself in order to shoulder Naruto's burdan and keep him safe, not caring if she died or not. As long as Naruto was alive, that's all that mattered. How is none of that love?

As for Naruto always saw Sakura as a sister. Really now? Let's get back on Promise of a lifetime.

While he started off with just a crush on Sakura (though not completely unfounded), we see just how far he is willing to go. He cheers her on, giving her courage while still acting silly, but when she is truly in danger, he doesn't hesitate to fight with all his might to protect her, at which point we are reminded of his own tragic past. But as Sakura seems to not return any of his feelings, we see yet something else. A glimpse at maturity, as Naruto is now willing to even hide his own pain, and let go of his own happiness, for Sakura. And yet, he still does his best to cheer her up.

Everything will be accelerated by the departure of their teammate, Sasuke.

Between Orochimaru's lure to power and his own inability to accept Naruto's growth, Sasuke finally takes the decision to leave. Sakura confronts him on his way out, but despite her most heart-felt pleas for him to stay, he still chooses a solitary avenger's path. Naruto is assigned to the team to bring him back. And before he leaves, Sakura meets up with him.

Bearing the unbearable pain of losing her first love, Sakura finally turns to Naruto. With heartfelt honesty, she cries out that she wasn't able to do Anything. So she begs her last hope. The one she's slowly come to trust. The one who despite his fumblings, came victorious out of the most desperate battles. And the very last one who might be able to reach to their third teammate.

Only you…

Please, bring back Sasuke.

To someone who has always tried to win Sakura's affections... this must have seemed like the ultimate blow. Naruto finds himself in an ultimate dilemma: Sakura, the girl He likes, has just asked him to bring back his rival in love. And whatever Naruto's sad smile way back at the hospital scene meant, there is no mistaken here. Naruto looks downwards, a look of hurt on his face. When he speaks to her, it is with a sad smile, and a surprisingly quiet voice.

Is this look here because it's her sister? Because her sister wants the one who she (at that time) loves?
I wouldn't MIND my sister asking me to go for the one she loves.

Sakura-chan, you really like Sasuke huh?

Unspoken: It's not me you like, huh.

And yet, instead of voicing his own pain, in a soft whisper, he reaches out to hers.

I know how much pain you're in because of Sasuke.

I can understand.

Even though she never acknowledged his own feelings, Naruto still reaches out to her. Instead of voicing his own pain, he voices hers... He is willing to put her own pain before his, when he's lived a lifetime far harsher than anything she could have imagined. Sakura has been endlessly bashed for this.

But... Sakura does respond. In this time of hardship, she finally begins to perceive this side that Naruto has always hidden from her, that she has never really seen yet. Within the darkness, she finally sees into Naruto's heart, and reflected within, is his real care for Her.

This is where Sakura starts realising what Naruto has done for her, that later, will bloom into love.
SasuKarin, not my interest, never has been, although you can draw some parallels with them.
When Karin first appeared, Kishi said something like this on the cover: The New Heaven and Earth.
Who was back then the Heaven and Earth of the series? Yes, Sakura(Heaven) and Naruto(Earth).

If Sakura getting over Sasuke is like Naruto giving up then how does Sakura end up with Naruto?!

It is a contradiction. Sakura would have to be completely over Sasuke. Otherwise it is embarrassing for Naruto. His wife is someone who may genuinely love him, but will always think of someone else as the man she loved first....that's just shameful for Naruto.

It would be like Sasuke and Naruto having a race. Sasuke clearly blows Naruto out of the water in the race....let's day he wins by 20 seconds. But Naruto wins the first place prize because Sasuke had a .01 second false start, and is disqualified. Here Sasuke would have won the race whether or not he had had the false start, but didn't win because of technicality.

If Sakura went with Naruto despite still loving Sasuke I'd be very dissapointed...her feelings wouldn't have changed, she simply would have had more feelings developed, and decided it was a more benaficial choice....which would be horrible developement for Sakura...

Yes, Sakura(Heaven) and Naruto(Earth).[/QUOTE]

sorry this is my post
listen none of that matters kishi has never said or writen that anything having to do with couples will happen to each his own opion untill writen by kishi and to the bold would she not have done the same for sasuke maybe more come no thats not proof an to the pic this is one of the reasons i said previous manga because the past proves nothing understand that fans of sasusaku use the past too now you could go on and say that there are moments in shipuden(not sure how to spell it) but most naruhina fans will just say its not current so to each his own till kishi says so
