Gai will die anyway. Naruto just spiked a bit of the life fore/chakra in Gai - but just barerly then pulled his arm off either accepting he can not save Gai or it is impossible to Save Gai. The only thing Naruto did is prolonging Gai's life so we will get last words of Gai to Lee and Friends just like Asuma....

Edit - Finally read,and I must say that was dope af. Gai was beast. Like I and many others predicted he is not going to die. Now,many people will give this chapter low rating,cursing kishi whole week,will say,it's ruined and blah,blah,blah.... but in the end what I like is that Kishimoto didn't changed the danger of using 8 gates at all. Gai's body was becoming ashess after the usage and he was about to die a very painful and sad death,but thanks to Naruto he is saved. But Still the sadness is there. Judging from Gai's body condition,I'll say Kishimoto,by not killing him,did more cruelty to gai. He is definitely not gonna remain a shinobi from this point on. Good chapter.

What I found most interesting was that Madara said that the situation was precarious, meaning that Guy could've killed him, it was just up to luck. Knowing this, and knowing for the fact that Juubito < Juudara, then Guy could've killed Obito when he was the Juubi's jinchuriki! Also since Night moth can bend space, Kamui would've been useless

no kishi was going for a plot twist so he hyped the fact that 8 gates meant death. Now hype subsequently used that setup to hype naruto on a cliffhanger in which Gai defies the death hype
