I have a good theory as to why Tobi is Obito, and I was apart of the Tobito theory supporters from the beginning. Here's the deal..
Tobi is Obito
Obito gave his eye to Kakashi and they were told to run, leaving Obito to die
Obito passed out
Obito was saved by Madara Uchiha at The Battle of Kannabi Bridge
After Obito woke up, Madara had already attended to his wounds, his eye sack, from which his eye to Kakashi was torn out, is shown to be sewn, and his right eye intact, although his right side of the face seems to be bruised a lot
Obito was burried in Konoha with an empty grave
Madara became Obito's mentor
Obito was brainwashed in the long run into accepting Madaras ideals
Madara was the one to come up with Tsuki No Me
Madara was the one to attack Konoha 16 years ago, wearing the mask
Madara died after unlocking Rinnegan (is not explained how he done it) and overusing it by accident
Obito became Tobi
His mission was to carry out Madaras plan
He was given all the information that Madara possessed, thus the extent of knowledge Tobi has about everything
He was trained by Madara

annoyed. obitos voice got deep as f-ck in 2 years.......major plot holes i don't even know where to begin. if there is no logical explanation on this I'm going to be pissed as shit. i feel like kishi just pulled this out of his ass like 3 months ago. i still don't believe its obito until next chapter. but now its predictable the madara is going to take the 10 tails for himself betray obito then obito is gonna join the good guys in a final battle cause he will know what to do i guess and he will die in the process....

guys let me just repost what I said from a couple weeks or days ago...
"I think the reason Tobi became how and what he is right now has something to do about a character that has been overlooked and neglected by many but holds great importance to Obito and Kakasahi. That's right I'm talking about Rin. As we all know she died but unfortunately the reason and events behind her death are still in the Kishi's locker, it's still unknown, a mystery. I believe Kishi meant it this way because the story of her death holds the explanation why Tobi turned into a madman. First we all know that Obito loves Rin now let me direct you to that eventful day when Obito was stucked under boulders of rocks, He decided to give kakashi his right eye as a gift then he made a request a 'WISH' for Kakashi to take care of Rin. Kakashi took it by the heart and decided that he would be Rin's protector even stating that he(kakashi) would sacrifice his own life just to save Rin if ever it needs to come to that. BUT we all know that Kakashi failed 'cause Rin died for some unknown reason.
Now, another thing that struck me was Tobi's line in the latest chapter(597) wherein he said to Kakashi: "You've seen reality, you should be able to understand...No 'WISH' can become true in this world" He really sounded like a really bitter person to me, like he is carrying something heavy inside.
I think those lines about a WISH implies something deeper. Maybe Obito during his recovering and brain conditioning years with Madara covertly witnessed Rin's death and Kakashi's short coming of protecting her. This convinced him to totally go with Madara's planas the only solution for the shortcomings of the shinobi world. Furthermore Tobi also said in chapter 597 that he 'wants to make a world where HEROES don't have to make pitiful excuses in front of graves' now we all know that this is a pun to the failure of Kakashi 'the Hero of the Sharingan' to fulfill a dying Obito's sole WISH>>>There was a flashback scene showing Kakashi standing before a grave.
As we all know, my thoughts are interpreted from translated materials so I'm really not sure if the wordings were correct from the original Japanese meanings, but hey based on what i read these are my thoughts.

I would just like to add that I think Zetsu, Orochimaru, Danzo and Madara had samething to do with Tobi/Obito but as of now it isn't that clear yet
*please to all those people who are saying Kishi is trolling or that he just pulls stuff from his behind, just quit it, hahaha coz you're making a fool out of yourself, a writer can make his story the way he wants it to be. Kishi is professional writer he knows what he's doing everything has been planned all along but unfortunately some of us just won't take it...just chill and enjoy the story everything has an explanation...

no text, really? i've got to have something to read. i was just looking at pictures and then ...bam... 'you are tobi', like seriously? i know that there will be an explanation for this. i never wanted to say this but it seems kishi is growing senile in his old age

I don't know why people are so confused over why Obito was so strong and how he nearly killed the 4th hokage. Obito had feelings for that girl but after she died and realized that, his hatred took over and he then made his motive to capture the tailed beasts and make a world completely ran by an false atmosphere where no one gets hurt or dies. When evil or hatred takes over someone, that character always tends to be more powerful compared to "good" people. Kinda like Sasuke situation he blames the death of his brother over the village and he just hates Naruto.

5/5 Great chapter with a nice last page reveal and seems fitting. Aside from the mental breakdown that Kakashi will now have I'm looking forward to how this pans out.

I would just like to add a thought about when Madara and Obito first encountered each other, Maybe Obito encountered Madara when he is on his way to kanabe bridge mission, as I remember he was late, right? and he said that there was this old person that he helped that caused his tardiness, Maybe that was Madara? (Madara scouting obito, disguised as someone else)

Good catch i was actually going to make a thread about it. I dont think so, bc if you recall earlier in the chapter you see the Third at the Chunin exams with Minato and the the Third is the one wearing the ceremonial Hokage robe and hat not Minato. Minato is just dressed as a team captain.should minato's face be on the mountain wall behind obito in page 7? i dont think he was the hokage then.. he became hokage only later right? did kishi mess up??

Has everyone forgotten about how Orochimaru was going to explain what went down in Konoha for Sasuke?
I mean think about it. Madara would be long dead to have helped Obito get out from under the stones, Orochimaru would be about the best option to have taken him in, which can explain what he saw so much in the Uchiha line prior to wanting to body snatch Itachi and Sasuke.
And this could also explain Tobi's carefree attitude when he first "joined" akatsuki.
Of course, Tobi said he gave Pain his reningan and made him into what he became so on second thought, it couldn't be Obito.

i cant believe this......it cant be obito.......he is practically the same age as kakashi....then how was he able to control nine tails at that time....and fought toe on toe with minato......i beieve it is not him....maybe another person...but not obito.

Even after the 4th took over the 3rd always wore the robes, at least from what i have seen, but the 4th wasn't Hokage until after the 3rd Great Ninja War officially, but maybe he was just waiting until after the war to be appointed.
