Well Tobi is Obito it is confirmed.
By the way for the people still denying it. If that's true then why did Kishi dedicate an entire chapter to the unmasking.

If you don't like the manga why are you reading it. You don't hate it you just hate that you were wrong. I was wrong too but I don't care.

I am sure there is an explanation.

It think it is a great twist, Obito sort of represents what could happen to Naruto if he is corrupted.

It's only a plothole if it is impossible to have happened or if it is contradictory in regards to the flow of logic of the story and since it is a Ninja World, there are infinitely more explanations as to why something happened than in real life. If there is a possibility (even the slightest) that something could have happened then it is not a plothole and is valid enough to be added in the manga.

Many seem to question how Obito is extremely skilled and knowledgeable and how he got to that level with what seems to be a short amount of time:

^ It is a ninja world and quite possible to become so powerful within a span of 3-5 years (eg. Sasuke). While everyone was busy being productive for the village and abiding by village laws which would have delayed or limited their training (eg. taking tests, helping around people in town, and doing missions), Obito could have focused solely on training and gaining power through methods such as mercilessly killing people and experimenting with them without the distraction of the village.

People also question how he could have survived the boulder:

^ Again, it is a ninja world and people will find ways to survive boulders falling down on them. Heck getting pounded by boulders is not even that severe compared to many other things in the world such as getting obliterated by a Kyuubi Chakra Blast or being burned to death by Amaterasu.

Surprisingly, people deny Obito being relevant and important:

^ Obito has to be more important for Kishi to make Kakashi Gaiden as I feel making an arc just for the sake of showing how Kakashi got his Sharingan and nothing more isn't enough. He put focus, depth and emotions into Obito's character for a reason so he isn't just a disposable side character.

I feel people should accept the possibility of Obito. Although chapter 599 doesn't quite confirm if Obito is really controlling his own body so I shall stick around for that.

OK, but even Sauske didn't become THAT strong in 3-5 years. You truly believe that a screw up like him with no real talent could have gotten so strong that he would be able to hang with the 4th Hokage? And even IF everything you say is true (because to a point, you're right...it is a comic), how do you explain the growth spurt? The 4th Hokage fought a grown ass man, not someone Kakashi's age. I guess we'll all have to wait and see what the truth is but I'm sure Kishi is laughing his ass off on how he has us ALL wondering about this.

and you asume the tobi that fought the 4th was an adult. that might have been Obito in his late teens or early 20's. there were years between that incident and now. that's alot of time for obito to learn his history, he was, after all, impersonating Madara.

But wasn't he the same age as Kakashi and he wasn't 20 then.

Does anyone actually know how much time passed between when Obito got crushed by the rocks and was "presumed" dead and when the 9 Tails showed up in Konoha?

It could be that Hashi's cells accelerated his growth and drastically increased Obito's powers. I am sure there will be a very interesting explanation.

Come to think about it tobi mentioned orochimaru when fighting with kabuto which means he knew it aside from akatsuki organization. However he was really impressed when he saw madara in the last coffin, so Obito must be related with these two.

Guess we'll just have to wait for next week to know about Obito-Madara-Orochimaru relation

Honestly people, Tobi is Obito. LOOK AT HIS FREAKING FACE. There is not denying in that. I gotta say I am super heartbroken that it is him because of Kakashi. Like it is important the Kishi explains this shit because why is Obito so mad. Obito reminds me so much of Naruto.... it's sad really.

It seems that Obito wasn't the obvious choice if so many people are in denial over it. The key to a good plot twist is too shock people and Tobi being Obito seems to have shaken many people.

FYI your are all reading this for free. If you don't like it get lost. This is Kishi's story, it is his decision.

Same here.. Didn't Oreo mutate his plants and that's how Zetsu was born? It sounds a lot like him. Maybe because he really wanted to have an Uchiha body so bad... I don't know but I really do agree with u.

Didn't really know what to expect! But now that it's somewhat confirmed I guess it adds so more excitement on the story of Kakashi and his teammates! Also I don't know why people are freakong out!! It's a fictional story for christ sakes!! Pigs could fly if kishi wanted them too!!

Kishi and his crew (rinnegan, sharingan, and byakugan users) are really excellent in doing their craft.

(1) They had the Tobi=Obito theorists favored since, in this chapter, the unmasked Tobi turned out to be Obito.
(2) They had the non Tobi=Obito theorists kept pushing bright concepts and ideas about how could (im)possibly happened.

Mine is still on (2).
For me Tobi is still the Nobody/Noone that was released a few chapters back.
Since becoming and as a Nobody, Tobi can just possibly able to assume any other personality and the closest thing to have is the character of Obito.

The original Obito (that was flashbacked in this chapter) could possibly be dead.
Tobi is an EXPERIMENT assuming Obito character.
Tobi is an EXPERIMENT (relative to what Zetsu is) probably by a powerful person in the manga (which can be Madara/Hashirama/Orochimaru and even by THE ONE-WHO-KNOWS-EVERYTHING).
The one(s) who trained Tobi could be Madara and/or The-One-Who-Knows-Everything in such a way that he really is powerful enough to take on other powerful ninjas. There is also the possibility that Tobi (as an EXPERIMENT) can obtain, collect, and use the powers, techniques, knowledge of powerful (even non powerful but useful) characters in the manga.

It's crazy to think that somehow Obito could survive, recover, get MS, somehow make it so his MS never makes him go blind, become proficient enough with Kamui to take on Minato, and Learn to control the Nine-Tails all in 2 years. The only person that could have taught him all of that information would have to be an Uchiha on par with Madara, or Madara himself. SO many questions that need to be answered.

This was a great chapter SIGH I don't get why people are still complaining. I would have been a million times more pissed if kishi had pulled some random character with little emotional/background connection to the story. It would be like those mystery novels where at the very end it turns out there was a huge clue that was left out of the story but ends up solving the whole thing. Also, who cares about the age discrepancy? There are plenty of characters in the naruto world who become very powerful at a young age.
Bottomline: what interests me is not WHO tobi was, but HOW he became so powerful and set on destroying the shinobi world.

Why are people so mad... so what if it is obito. This isnt shakespeare or the works of homer or plato! Its a comic book, granted a japanesse comic but a comic non the less. Not to mention the comic is not even complete and on going. Its not going to be perfect, it might not even make sense but its his story and its just like any other manga/comic with predictable plot holes and even incomplete story telling. To be mad/shattered/heart broken about this, you might aswell not read these ever again.

I think that the whole idea behind Tobi is that there are a thousand questions. Obito had the most plot holes and thats why he is Tobi. I think that Kishi intended to leave us with plot holes that do not make any sense. Since Tobi's entrance, there is always an feeling of mystery about him and I think that even though he is unmasked, Kishi wants to maintain that air of mystery for as long as possible. It might be a while before we get the backstory of Obito. It may not be until after the 10 tails is defeated and Naruto convinces Obito to tell his story.

I think Tobi is intended to be the kind of character that the more you learn about him the more questions are raised.

I want an explanation of allot of things:
1. obito wasnt alive to give nagato the rinnegan
2. why did obito have two sharingans when he faced Konan
3. How does Obito have all this knowledge about the ninja world
4. How was Obito old enough to fight the fourth
5. Did Obito control Yagura and help itachi during the massacre or was it someone else
6. How did Obito get his Mangekyou
7. Why did Obito change his feelings about scum abandoning teammates to the world is a cruel place where promises aren't fulfilled.
8. How did Obito even survive the boulder

Answers
1- Who said he was, Tobi?? That was probably a lie!!!!
2- He had 2 sharingans because he has a collection of them and can transplant eyes like contact lenses. (u can see the collection after sasuke beats danzo).
3- Books and Zetsu. Remember Zetsu records everything. Could have been left by Madara to carry on his wil.
4- If you see Kakashi on that period, he is already an adult almost. Also, since Obito has the 1st hokage cells in him, he could have advanced a lot in terms of techniques, power and reflex and kishi knows what else. Why you think he can use Kamui as he wishes ( Hint: Hokage cells.)
5- The controlling of the Mizukage could have been Danzo with shisui's eyes. I remember Danzo had a pony tail when he joined Hanzo to kill akatsuki members. So that explains the long hair. Or could have been Obito with Shisui's eye that Danzo loaned to him, or a genjutsu. Danzo also had something to do with the massacre. Remember when Tobi and Danzo met after the Hokage Summit and Tobi said: Long time no see, since the uchiha incident. Or something in that line.
6- Obito got Mangekyou Sharingan probably when he learned that Rin died.
Or he killed someone dear to him.
7- That is dissapointment setting in. Have u been let down by someone??? Yeah, that sucks and also when u all these dreams in ur head and aspirations and cant seem to bring them to reality, u kind of loose faith in everything, specially if u gave an eye to a friend that was supposed to take care of the woman u love, only to be let down. Promises unkept and so on. Pretty reasonable.
8- That one is easy. It's called trolling. Lmao! Could be Zetsu doing his thing, Zetsu could have been anywhere, he appears in the toilet, the soup, I mean, possibilities are endless. And he repaired him, gave him a new set of arms and legs and voila! Tobi came to life.
