Well imo the mask face back then isnt madara coz as the 500 ends with the sentence "who's face lies behind the mask".As i understand or kishi want us to believe that there is more mask men or to confuze us(which is really working to me coz im a lot confuzed).Well my english are not uber so maybe i misunderstand XD
He became useless after the fight with the 1st. The 1st was the one who did something to him. Minato as far as we know only did something to the fox. I guess that controlling the fox for madara right now should present as a very dificult task, rendering him weak for a long time. In his prime, the fox must have been something he could control (more or less) easily. After the 1st beat him up, he must have lost the majority of his ability/power in that area, so when he controled the fox 16 years ago, he must have become extremly weak afterwards, leaving him incapable of doing anything for a long time. That must have been the reason why the only thing he did was control/release the fox and not to kill several people or at least have some direct confrontation (one must assume he didn't since no one knew he was alive so he must have released/controled the fox and disapeared right after, to weak to fight)Yeah, I do believe in kishi's motto about the next surpasses the old... You see, if minato was that lame of a hokage how come he was chosen to be one at a very young age? and if he didnt have that huge of a talent and chakra how come he was chosen to train for sage? and also, hes techs are way too awesome that i think it could use up alot of chakra. But one thing bugs me though, when minato "drained" madara/tobi that's why he has to retreat, what do they mean by "draining"? coz as far as i know, i do believe that they can "recharge" chakra by resting. what i think is that minato might have whooped madara's ass so badly with some sealing tech that renders him useless using only defensive abilities...
I think that in the 501 we will know exactly what happened that night and what did to controll the fox, even what minato did to him. (maybe it's to much for a chapter bu I would really want to find all those things now, in one chapter, because it's begginning to get a little to long this "story arc"- NEED SOME ACTION!!!!)

I Havnt read your theory because im new in thi site, but if by soul transporting you mean madara transferring his soul to someone elses body like for example obito or someone else, then i that is ofcourse a possibility!!, ive mentioned something like that before myself, but what i meant this time was that its not actually madara, its someone else perhaps and kabuto threatened to reveal his secret by showinghim that coffin with madaras body!!
or yet again if it is madaras body in that coffin, as a friend said, it could be that madaras soul is inside someone elses body, and by showing him that coffin with madaras real body, kabuto threatened him to summon back his soul to his body any time he wanted, then he would be kabutos puppet!!
pardon me if im repeating anyones theory here, im really new here, but i myself have given many great theories in another site, but i am sorry if i repeat!

Definetly!! finally we will know what really happened 16 years ago on Narutos birth!, well atleast on kushina and minatos part!! we have yet to know tobis part!!

I've been searching and can't find anything saying that minato was a sage. Actually, only found references to Jyraia and Naruto. That Naruto surpassed his predecessor, jyraia (and not minato). The only thig about that is minato being able to summon Gamabunta and having a robe similar to the one naruto uses. But summoning Gamabunta is something that naruto could already do before being a sage, and the robe is diferent from what jiraya used, so one can assume that it's unrealated to being a sage. Minato could be in his way to being a sage, but don't think that he was already one.

well didnt read the entier thread lol but here some thoughts of me.
madara waited that kushinas seal get's on the weakest point so that he takes over control of the kyubi why? well i think the seal at normal state disables the power to control the kyubi i bet if naruto would fight vs madara that madara couldnt take over the control over the fox specaly becose naruto made a even stronger seal then the 4 element seal.
what happend 16 years ago?
well it's obvios minato had to withdraw but somehow he got naruto back (he probably suprised madara and took naruto back) but by that time it was to late the kyubi escaped from kushina (not becose madara brocke the seal or something it's simple in chapter 500 they explain that at the first time the kyubi almost has breacke out if they didnt prevent it now minato couldnt be there to supres the fox .... and the fox finaly brocke true the seal...) madara had only to sit and watch that the kyubi ravages in konoha i bet in that time madara showd the same abilites like we see in current time... resulting that he was as weak/strong as now.

I think Tobi is the real Madara. After all the failed conspiracy theories about Tobi being Danzo or Obito you'd think people would stop questioning Tobi's integrity =)...

Yes no where in the manga it is said that Minato was a Sennin and Naruto was also able to summon Gamabunta when he wasn't a Sennin. So its obvious and the reason Naruto has always been compared to Jiraiya and Minato when Tsunade saw Naruto return to fight Pain Jiraiya's and Minato's pic was shown in the background. It is because Jiraiya was his teacher and Minato was his father. Simple nowhere it is mention that Minato was a Sennin
