In reality most ninja were farmers and peasants who would occassionly kill a wealth person or steal something for someone.

These are people who can summon intelligent and powerful animals, create vast amounts of individual substances with just their own life source known as chakra and have reflexes so great our real world standards dwarf against them, and that's just mentioning part one. Plus Naruto isn't the only series putting a creative twist to a historical figures. One Piece does the same with pirates, Bleach does the same with Samurai. That's the concept of fiction.

It got a lot better with the last few episodes they released. I'm pretty sure they released them out of order so I don't know which number exactly. It had a little bit of a rough start but it ended nice. The slave town episode was pretty good.

On the topic of different ninja, it's true most ninja didn't wear black unless going on night time missions. Most common outfits worn by ninja were priests and beggars as they could usually get closest to a target and raise the least amount of suspicion, respectively.
