Rasengan is a spinning sphere that generates light. (It looks like a disco ball.) Upon impact it explodes and send the target flying. The Chidori is a blade created from lightning, which also generates light. (IT just isn't flashy and spinning.) Upon impact the target is pierced like if it was a blade. The Kirin and Rasenshuriken are both great and massive attacks, but they hold their characteristics. The Rasenshuriken is a gigantic bomb and there is no need to hit the target directly. The Kirin is a precise attack that has great destructive power, however it is a singular attack that has to hit the target directly to take effect.
The Kurama cloak in general is nothing but flashy, while Sasuke EMS abilties, such as Amaterasu or Susano'o are dark and not light. (As in, not flashy) Its not a drawback for Naruto, they just have different styles of fighting.
Well, when you talked about flashy I thought that you were talking about specifically about attacks that destroy everything in their path, not just wtih the litteral meaning of creating light, like rasengan. Well other than that, Naruto can also use his clones which cannot be considered a "flashy" attack. At least now he doesn't overpower his oponents by mere numbers. For instance, against Pain he had done a preety clever use of them.
