naruto vs sasuke will always be my favourite
Word. The only fight that has come close to that one for me was Kakuzu and Hidan vs. Kakashi and Shikamaru('s team... but honestly, mostly Shikamaru).

EDIT: Scratch that. Rock Lee vs. Gara is my #2. The coolest fights to me are the ones with the most taijutsu. Feels too much like watching chess when there's not enough of it.

Part 1 better. you had a lot more involvement with the konoha genin also. good, not so hax, fights such as

Chunin exam preliminaries
naruto vs gaara
Oro vs team 7 in forest of death
oro vs 3rd hokage
sasuke retrieval arc (shino should have been in it)

the only fights i actually liked in shippuden were

3 sannin fight
jiraiya vs pein
deidara vs sasuke
sakura + chiyo vs sasori...
skirmish between kabuto and team 7 in beginning (kabuto so badass)
and that's it. nowadays it's too much goin on. part 1 naruto had battles that actually involved thinking and stragety and a lot more interesting fights. now it's just "whoever has the most op jutsu wins"

I liked the battles in Part 1 more than Part 2.

Part 2 may have had more high stake battles with dangerous opponents but it became way too predictable. By the time Part 2 started we already had an establishment of the chunk of main characters so we knew who could or couldn't die.

Back in Part 1 it was still fresh so we literally had no way of knowing who would survive their fights which made it that much more exciting. I mean seriously, any of the Genin could have died in their battles against the Sound 5. That's what made those fights so great. Hell, for a moment I'm sure most of you thought Chouji and Neji really did die until they were brought back to Konoha in time.

Part 2 is more epic and on a grander scale. as a result we got explosive jutsus and alot of hax. plus alot more people die IMO.
part 1 was about showing how the kids and some jounins fought and was more about taijutsu and smarts.
i like both.

part 1 naruto had battles that actually involved thinking and stragety
nah i think part 2 has as much strategy as part 1. shikamaru and kakashi vs hidan and kakuzu, jiraiya vs pain (the reason jiraiya lost is because he didnt know about pains abilities), sasori vs sakura and chiyo, most of sasukes fights (even though sasuke vs danzo was a spam fest, it came down to battle smarts in the end and sasuke's was better). naruto vs third raikage.
plus part 2s fights are more emotional and meaningful. when the "bad" guy loses, you still feel for him. i didnt care about any part 1 villains except zabuza and haku. and the good guys actually lose and have to retreat in many part 2 missions.

I did think that Neji died and I was pretty upset about it. I wasn't all that worried about Chouji, I just have never really liked him because he never has anything worthwhile to say.
