The overwhelming opinion is that hashirama purely overpowered madra and was vastly superior. clearly they fought on even terms and hasirama was forced into setting a trap to win. He didn't overpower madara as tards suggest

Funny:
In case of madara people completely neglect the fact that he had to sacrifice his power to gain power of kurama.
In a way he basically was fighting kurama by exerting genjutsu on it as kurama wasnt there willingly, just like hashirama didnt beat kurama but assumed control over it once he got the chance.

In case of naruto it appeared that kurama was more in control then himself, naruto usually doesnt walk on his legs an arms
