Well Naruto just cares about his friend a lot and he most likely wants to avoid war (despite them starting some shit when they tried to capture Hinata).
I thought it was a really important part of Naruto's character to understand how revenge was the turning point for so much in the Ninja World, but Kishimoto went about it the wrong way with him having to beg.

It is a way to piss off people even when you are stronger than them.
Hashirama bowed his head down in the first kage meeting even though Hashirama could obliterate all of the kages there.It is a way to make your enemies look even more inferior. U_U

I agree that the idea was kinda lame, but I think Kishi just tends to overdo it when he attempts to convey their relationship. It's near impossible because it is utterly unrealistic.
OP: It was worth it when you consider the training Boruto gets as a result. Naruto is the most powerful, but Sasuke is the most skilled. What also makes it worth it (though it didn't actually work) is Sheer power balance. Konoha has the most powerful Shinobi in the NV and having a Rinnegan genius as an Anbu doesn't hurt the status quo at all. Just sayin'.

In GoT, Naruto would probably Ned Stark. Sasuke would definitely be Ramsey Bolton.

I think it is becoming quite easy for people to write Sasuke off as a traitor. Let's be real, though. If your home village used your brother to kill your whole family (your parents; right in front of you), you'd be a traitor for serving that country. It happens Sasuke had to save Konoha along with the rest of the world. He's no traitor; he's a spoiled, scorned, avenger who was manipulated just like Obito, but came into his own much sooner. Just sayin'.
