I agree maybe if you're talking in terms of strength only, but the same guy that you claim is trying to portray them as "equal" has also clarified with his writing that it is the blonde, blue eyed boy who will change the world and succeed where Hagoromo failed. Not the blonde blue eyed boy and the black hair, black eyed boy.
I don't think Kishi portraying them as "equal" in terms of importance. Naruto>Sasuke in that aspect so if it came down to them Naruto would take supremacy. I feel that Kishi is simply stressing Sasuke more so as the final piece to complete the larger puzzle, but he isn't as big of a piece as Naruto is, otherwise there would be "children of prophecy", not one child.
And unfortunately, as much as I love Sasuke (and if they were humans I'd logically choose him in a fight) the manga's ENTIRE context suggests that Naruto is superior overall
