Actually, I think now that intangibility is a mode where user remotely activates the intangibility. It would make perfect sense, but then again that means Obito would have to react and remotely activate it against enemies.

So basically he activates his intangibility mode, and then for 5 straight minutes he can phase through any incoming attacks passively? If that's what you're saying then I agree that it makes the most sense.
