So, basic stuff at first, what do you know about Naras, strengths, limitations, etc. Also, why did you chose the ability? Like what schemes do you have in mind.

The Nara clan is known for having a special ability to control their own shadows, which allows them to stretch it into different shapes and forms. Their signature technique, Shadow Imitation, is exemplary in one stretches their shadow along their surface to connect it to a target's shadow, thus binding them and allowing their movements to be controlled. There are a wider variety of applications of shadows, forming extra appendages from one's shadows as seen in the Shadow Sewing technique, which allows them to be quite versatile in how they're used, from pretty general and basic usage to jutsu which are very specific in function, that allows for the user to supplement usage of basic shadow techniques. A user's natural sensory link with their shadow, as well as their unique ability to distinguish between normal and technique-based shadows can make for very deadly subterfuge-based attacks.

Shadow techniques are reliant on the presence of both light and other shadows in order to function optimally. Dawn and dusk is when they're at their strongest, since shadows are quite large at that time of day. Even in the middle of the day, shadow techniques are usable, but they can be hindered by lack of natural shadows in the terrain, which occurs in open fields. They're useless in environments of complete darkness. Which is why Nara members make use of items such as flash bombs, in order to create light sources so that shadow can exist. While they're not weak, there are ways to overcome them, such as being outside of their range of reach, using techniques or other means to block light sources, or using a larger light source to impede the activation/usage of a shadow, such as Fire techniques.

I chose the ability for its more subtle and unique abilities. I'm fairly used to the basic 5 elements and how they function, I'm familiar with Dark Release, and I want to see what I can do with an ability that's less based around making powerplays by tossing large energy blasts and more around subterfuge. My Nara bio is also an inspiration for picking it up, since he's supposed to be an assassin figure.

You got pretty much everything right, only thing I'd make a note of is that while fire techniques/light sources are effective against incomplete shadow techniques, they're on equal terms with completed techniques, specifically those that have a solid form. This is due to the classification of our techniques as Yin based, so any physical shadow would be equal to elemental techniques, a point that several people don't know and as a result we bank on. In case it comes up in a fight, and they don't take my word for it under the pretence of 'bias', you can show them this quote from the .
When a Nara shadow jutsu is incomplete and a large source of light comes into play between the user and target, the advance of the shadow is slowed (B rank fire), halted (A rank Fire), or pushed back to user (S rank and Forbidden Fire).
As for " ability that's less based around making powerplays by tossing large energy blasts and more around subterfuge"

But nah nah, sneaky stuff is there as well.

So, let's dive in with the basic technique. Basic analysis and limitations should suffice, with a unique perspective if any. We can RP this if thats your style, I personally don't mind either way.

(Kage Mane ) - Shadow Imitation
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short - Mid Range (, long range if additional shadow/s.)
Chakra cost: 10 (-5 per turn)
Damage Points: N/A
Description: This technique allows the user to control their shadow as far as possible whilst it has sufficient area, additional area can be added by joining with another shadow. Once it comes into contact with the targets shadow, the two merge and the target is forced to imitate the users movements until the bond is broken.

Sorry for the delay on this.

Kage Mane is pretty much the signature technique of the Nara HA, it exemplifies the ability to manipulate and control shadows in order to gain control over other shadows, such as that of other ninja. Once bound, the target has to follow your exact movements. This can be used to prevent them from countering a certain attack that's coming at them, or force them to perform a particular action (as seen with Shikamaru and Temari in the Part 1 Chuunin Exams). It serves as the foundation for other techniques, such as the Neckbinding and Sewing techniques which are more directly offensive. Whilst the technique itself is simple, the potential for play-making is actually pretty high. Given its range of reach, its at its most powerful when channeled through a pathway which can both extend its reach and be relatively unseen by targets until it reaches and binds them. This being said, using this jutsu in tandem with other tools and abilities is required to see its full potential. I suppose one crucial thing to note though, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that channeling Kage Mane through other shadows only grants it the ability to travel a given distance into long-range, rather than continue indefinitely in long range. This being said though, should you be in an environment with numerous shadows surrounding you, you can theoretically chase the target with a shadow indefinitely.

You are correct, it depends entirely on the range of the supplement shadow. I usually tend to set up for the beforehand through innocuous looking techniques or methods, such as ink rain.

Next off is essentially a Nara infusion technique that allows for you to restrict others without the need of your own shadow.

(Kage Mane Shuriken) Shadow Imitation Shuriken
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user traps the enemy by throwing and hitting them with up to 4 shuriken that they have hidden their shadows with. This allows the shuriken to strike the opponent and initiation the Shadow Imitation jutsu.

Simple stuff, it's shadows applied to shuriken so that once struck an opponent is stuck within your Shadow Imitation. This is superior to Kage Mane in the sense that the user is able to move and act freely once the jutsu is initiated (throwing the shuriken), which can allow the user to attempt a bind and limit their options to avoid it. On its own however, its not difficult to get around, since the shuriken only have to be knocked away or blocked by something else to prevent the jutsu from actually working.

Sorry man, I thought I had replied. The following are pretty easy in execution and only get cooler at more unique uses.

Kagegakure no Jutsu) Hiding In Shadow Technique

All good.

Hiding In Shadow is probably my favourite of the techniques we've covered thus far. Though its a simple technique, it can be effective as a retreat tactic, allowing the user to escape potentially disadvantageous situations. Likewise, it can be used to put the user in position to attack from blindspots. A good way to maximise the utility of the jutsu is to fight in a terrain with multiple large shadows, or ones that stretch into each other. I'm assuming this can't be used to morph into one's own shadow? Or at least, it'll be relatively useless if it is possible?

Pretty simple, it builds on the Shadow Imitation by allowing the user to be more directly offensive with it, strangling a bound target.

This one's a little different, wherein the natural binding capability of Nara techniques are saved as the finisher. Its not reliant on the opponent being bound by it first, which is a plus, but being a C-Rank its pretty easy to work around.

It won't work on your own shadow, though if you utilise a clone and hide in his it's possible.

What would you say about the speed of the second two techniques?

The first jutsu is just a stronger version of the Kage Gijin really. It has the same effect, only being a rank stronger.

The next two techniques are similar, in that they use flash bombs to initiate the technique. The first of them is pretty simple, using the flash bomb to extend the range of a shadow, upon which it will transform into a large hand and attack the enemy. The second involves using it to quickly extend the shadow, indefinitely rather than by a set limit (e.g. mid-range max), and using one's own body in order to grasp and constrict the enemy through a quickly created shadow.

I'd say that both Giant Hand Crush and Demon Stripe are pretty fast, since the detonation of a flash bomb is the only usage condition. After which, its simple shadow manipulation. I'd say that Demon Stripe is probably faster, since the user can simply move their body as they need to in order to cast a shadow directly on the opponent.

Zanda cute with those dislikes though.

Yes, it's essentially the same but with the option of creating more copies, albeit weaker based on the amount you create. (Follows normal splitting rules)

I guess not particularly faster, but rather easier to use due to it's diversity. If you have a lasting technique that induces effects similar to flashbombs those two would be pretty sick, since you'd have a the requisite of the technique set, allowing for an almost instant usage.

(Kage Enmaku) Shadow Smoke Screen
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary/Attack
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 20
Damage Points: 40
Description: The user first throws a smoke bomb at the opponent then uses their shadow to cover the smoke, compressing it and trapping the opponent in a body suit shadow with the high pressure smoke crushing them in.

A weird ass but cool technique, especially if you were rocking smoke release on your bio.

(Kage Nui no Jutsu) Shadow Sewing Technique
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary/Attack
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 20 (+5 if used with exploding tags)
Damage Points: 40 (+10 if used with exploding tags)
Description: Technique allows the user to create tendrils out of their shadow, the tendrils can serve various purposes, such as attacking or binding a/n target/s. After this technique hits it can then be directly change into; Shadow Possession Jutsu (Kagemane no Jutsu) or Shadow Paralysis Jutsu (Kage Shibari no Jutsu).

Another cool one, as it allows for 'stacking' in one technique. If you have a variation on tags, or general empowerment on them, then it becomes quite a powerful technique for it's rank. Like if you have heavy tag variation, this becomes a 70 DMG tech for the cost of 25 chakra. Add a mode or boost onto that, then boom.

Apologies for the delay, uni started recently and I've been trying to settle in.

Smoke screen is pretty neat, since it incorporates use of basic tools in combination with the HA. I suppose it wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination to say that this can be used in the wake of technique clashes or other phenomena that would create dense smoke as a result, allowing the user to quickly compress it around the opponent. I can see this being fairly good if you have techniques to create smoke, or other methods to effectively do so.

This is a pretty nice technique, being that it acts as a good defensive and offensive option in a fight at once. It's pretty simple, but it has decent utility in a variety of situations. I have a couple of questions regarding this jutsu, the first being whether the reversion to Shadow Possession and/or Shadow Paralysis counts as a move on top of using this jutsu as well, or if its simply a passive thing and the chosen jutsu just needs to be mentioned. And just to clarify, these shadows possess tangibility?

Apologies as well.

Yup, you're correct. It costs a move, and yes they posses tangibility.

Shadow Network seems alright, Shadow Sewing is probably the superior technique in terms of defensive utility, since the shadow can directly attack and defend against the opponent, rather than just possessing the of an incoming target only.

Not really much to say honestly, if you've got a spare clone hanging around near the opponent for some reason if you hit them with a shadow sewing, may as well???? Pretty situational.

Eh I guess, though I'd probably use something different if I had the spare clone.

Damage points: N/A
Description: After trapping the enemy with the Shadow Sewing Technique, the user by making the Rat hand seal can them manipulate the shadow to bring them closer to himself.

Basically movement control over the opponent.

(Kageyose no Jutsu) Shadow Pull Technique
