But what does the RAW say? They are two different translations so finding another translation doesn't make the other one wrong. The OP translation seems to make more sense. #1 The Six Paths don't have number designations, they have names, so connecting "third" to any of the paths would be impossible and the statement meaningless. #2 Especially if Obito believes that either he or Madara is the Second Coming of the Sage of Six Paths of course he would call Nagato The Third because they had a lot in common. He's being respectful even though Nagato betrayed him, he did so out of the persuit of Peace.

First So6P: The first lol... The god of shinobi.
Second So6P: Madara, since he was the second to awaken the rinnengan.
Third So6P: Nagato, since he was the third person to acquire the legendary eyes. Even though they were technically Madara's, Nagato still used them and is therefore considered by Obito as the 3rd.

Good question, if Nagato was the 3rd of the Six Paths, there obviously must have been 6 Paths lol. I'll do a thorough analysis on this.
