Hashirama by hype. Nagato by feats. From what we have seen from Hashirama, he has no chance. But since he beat Madara with EMS, I think with all the hype, he may actually be better than Nagato

You are arguing for me with the bolded part. If Hashirama could control it then why would it be running wild and destroying the village? Unless you are saying that Hashirama wanted the village destroyed?

Yes Mito was a good candidate but again you are missing the point, if you had a fool-proof way of controlling a tailed beast, why would you risk a jinchurikki which could lose control and kill people? It makes no sense. Hopefully you see that.

EDIT: Better, I have no idea how he would do that. I understand Madara doing that because he has the EMS, but so far only dojutsu has been shown to control tailed beasts/ summons.

I know Mokuton couldn't do it though, it can only suppress chakra.

Harashirama was categorically said to control beasts in the same sentence as madara. It cannot be interpreted any other way. Infact the fact that miko sealed it to better aid him, indicate he was wasting chakra doing so. We dont know how he control it and to what degree
Having said that, I still dont see how harashirama might win this one until further light is shown on his abilities
