Kind of explains where the eyes came from. The revelation that Madara possess the Rinnegan towards the end of his life and knows of Nagato as proved in a recent chapter may explain why he knows of Nagato. What i really do not understand is why give the eyes to a boy and what deal was made between Madara and Tobi. Perhaps its because Nagato was of the Uzamaki line thats why he recieved the eyes only to be manipulated in the future to bring Madara back to life..... Tho that never happened and the deal was broken perhaps by Tobi. Orchimaru knew of Nagato and he has something to do with this i feel.

both eyes are PERMANENT. They cannot go to their regular eyes at all.
Nagato had the option of going from normal eyes to Rinnegan. THerefore they could not possibly be implanted. U_U

yea you are correct. the eye's had to have been implanted. the only reason i like the rinnegen is because it doesnt drain or strain your chakra. it doesnt even look cool imo..but yea definetley implanted like loki said when it's tansplanted you cant turn it off and nagato had than on and running 24/7
Actually, I think Madara had Naguto's eyes. We know that Naguto's point was to bring madara back, but what if Naguto was also just an experiment?
What we know:
Madara knew Naguto.
Madara got his rennigan shortly before he died.
Madara thought Naguto was the one who brought him back
So how about this: Everything Tobi said was correct about Madara. He did survive, and tried to figure out how to unlock the Sharingan/Rennigan. He tested it on Naguto.
He understood the 6 paths, and we know that Senju/Uchiha are 2 of the paths (and descendants of the 2 sons). We know the Uzamaki are related to the Senju, thus related to the Uchiha. If believed that, then he would have been experimenting on them to try to unlock the rennigan to see which other relative clan had paths, and which one had the rennigan. So he unlocked it in the Uzamaki, which had the ability to unlock that trait. So then he absorbed their DNA to unlock his after that. Knowing he wasn't going to live much longer though, he planned to use Naguto to bring him back.

I guess but your theory of not being able to deactivate the eyes is as loose as my theory. What if at Rinnegan stage its different and the user can deactivate? Tho yeah well put it certainly puts a hole in my idea.
I fail to see how the Thread is Fail to the other poster its a reasonable idea. When creating a Thread its hard to think of everything.

Really? I couldn't tell how Nagato never had the Rinnegan or any family members w/ it until he got mad, or whatever.

He kept is pretty much deactivated before he activated it after Yahiko's death and had those chakra rods impaled in his back permanantly- he was ambushed. It seems he never took another chance of being caught off guard if he could help it.
