My thoughts, although where does it say that Rinne Tensei is a death sentence. Just because Obito refers to it as a sacrifice? Maybe his chakra levels are currently so low he too will die from the use.

However it does seem to suck up your life force as well as a massive amount of chakra. I say this because while using the technique your body ages at a significantly higher rate of speed.

If it requires all of your chakra, then that is instant death. You run out, you die. This has been true since the beginning. Why would Konan refer to his chakra leveling it was just gonna be depleted to 0 anyways?

I agree, Obito mentioned the over extent of his powers being the cause of all the signature uzumaki red hair being drained to snow white with age on Nagato.

Maybe time lapsed since death does effect it in some form, but that has yet to be shown.
