Laughable. Plot's the thing that kept him alive as long as he was.

1. Nagato conveniently was left alone to regenerate from Amaterasu and ambush Itachi and co.
2. Nagato conveniently absorbed most of the Hachibi's chakra at the very beginning.
3. Naruto conveniently didn't use clones and attacked with chakra despite knowing about Preta.
4. Bee conveniently didn't transform into the Hachibi to counter Asura.
5. Itachi and co. conveniently stood around after Susano'o cut Nagato's arm off for him to regenerate.
6. They conveniently waited for him to prepare Chibaku Tensei and watch it gather earth.

As far as I know, 6 pains were just clones controlled by Pain, quite similar to Naruto's shadow clones.

If people say things like 6 vs 1, then Naruto vs Pain was like 1000 vs 6. Use some common sense people. Though I am confused about one thing - Could Nagato not resurrect himself using his jutsu when he was in control of himself? ALso, why was he crippled when he was edo. Using this logic, Itachi should have been blind. Further, how did the Totsuka sword remain with Itachi's susanoo when he had already died. Did it die with him too and them got resurrected ? (LOL!). Or did Kabuto have it and give it to Itachi before sending him to war?
