Mystical: Chapter 4: The Soul-Man
(Melody and the others awake from their sleep after hearing the petrified screams of the man whose soul had been brutally removed from his body. The gang hurries out of their room to the epicenter of the noise, but stop dead in their tracks by the timely appearance of the Manager whose body was obscured by the darkness of the night.)
Manager: Hello, kids may I help you?
Fangs (whispering to Mike): Who is that?
Mike: (whispering to Fangs) I don't know it sounds like the guy at the check out desk.
Fangs: Oh so you're the Manager?
(The Manager nodded to Fangs question, but Melody and Lupus felt a bit uneasy in his presence as if he was up to something. The two looked at him with suspicious and confused eyes until Melody finally mustered up enough courage to ask him some questions of her own.)
Melody: Mr. Manager- person did you hear any of that screaming just now?
Manager: Why yes I did. In fact I was on my way there right now to see if any one had been injured or needed my services.
Melody: What about---
(Lupus who became enlightened at that very second of something that never occurred to him interrupted Melody much to her chagrin.)
Lupus: It's okay Melody, I think we should just get some sleep and let the Manager handle what's going on.
Melody: (puzzled) Fine.
(The group walks back into their room with Mike and Fangs saying Good Night to the Manager. The Manager walks back the way he came from planning how to enact his next soul extraction from Melody and her friends.)
(Back in the suite Fangs and Mike decide to go to bed while Lupus and Melody speak with each other. Pantatharus walks up to their conversation laying down and looking at the two while they speak to one another.)
Melody: (angry) Why did you interrupt me.. I almost had him!
Lupus: Because I already know that it's him. When I woke up after I heard the screaming I realized it was coming from the direction that the Manager was coming from not the direction that he was going to. Also, did you even find it odd that it seemed as though he was in the shadows by our door. It's as if he was trying to assault one of us when we came out of the room.
Melody: Yeah, but that's just a theory you barely have anything to back it up. I mean you can't prove that he hurt or even killed anybody.
Lupus: But, you didn't let me finish you see why do you think Pantatharus even got up and came over here or why he's at the door right now?
(Pantatharus is shown to be at the door wanting to do outside)
Melody: Maybe, he just wants to go outside.
(Melody lets Pantatharus outside)
Lupus: Well he probably does, but when I was outside I smelled something that was coming from the Manager's direction and the smell was on the Manager as well.
Melody: What was it?
Lupus: Soul Remains. Somehow he ripped someone's soul out of their body and the remains of that soul were left on his body.
(Melody, now visibly shaken contemplates wonder what their next move will be.)
Melody: What do we now?
Lupus Well I guess we should wait until Mike and Fangs get up and decide what to do from there.
Melody: Alright. Let me let Pantatharus back in.
(Melody opens the door to Pantatharus who quickly dashes into the suite. Melody closes the door and goes into one of the 4 bedrooms of the suite and sits down on the bed and falls asleep after pledging to stay awake.)
(Pantatharus walks into Melody's room and lays down next to the bed. A dark figure emerges from Pantatharus and takes on the form of a man. This man proceeds to watch over Melody as she sleeps. After a few moments go by he lifts her from her resting place and makes it outside successfully without alerting anyone of his presence.
Melody: (dazed and confused wakes up) Where am I?
(Melody finds herself on top of a seal that has been marked on the ground. Melody also realizes that she is bound by invisible rope that she can't seem to get loose. She sees a figure in the darkness and asks who he is)
Melody: Who are you?
(The figure walks from out of the shadows and is shown to look identical to the man from earlier)
Manager: It's me the Manager.
Melody: You're the Manager.. but how is it that you look.... so different are you a .. shape-shifter or something.
Manger: No, I'm a soul stealer. Basically, I lure young people to my log cabin. Most of the time though, people just come into the cabin without my doing which was the case of you and you're friends. Then, they order a room and sleep on beds I myself have enchanted so that anytime you rest on them sleep will always overtake you. After that I take them from their rooms without anyone knowing and eat their soul it's quite delicious most of the time (smiles). Once their soul has been removed from their body, I simply wear their skin over mine or I hang it on the walls in the lobby which you probably thought were the guns that were hanging on the walls.
Melody: So that's why this stuff was all complimentary.
Manager: Of course, if I were to charge then people would never stay here and I would never get the souls I need.
Melody: The skin you're wearing...
Manager: Is from the man I just killed, yes. But, it will be a pleasure wearing yours.
(Melody struggles to break free from the invisible rope she is bound by as the Managers walks toward her. The Manager kneels right in front of her and chants while he is using his hand to reach down her throat for her soul. Suddenly, hears a cry of pain as the Manager is bashed in his head with her flute by the timely arrival of Lupus. The invisible rope that was holding Melody captive disappears and Melody stands up and takes her flute from Lupus.)
Melody: Thanks, Lupus I owe you one. (kisses Lupus's cheek)
Lupus: (slightly blushing) No, problem.
(The Manager, now visibly angry, with blood dripping down from the side of his head prances toward Lupus and Melody. Melody and Lupus both jump out of the way but are hit by the Manager ,as he jumps toward them again, and are knocked into the wall.)
Manager: (angry) Now I can't have someone just save you and take you away from me now can I. Your soul will be mine. I'm going to eat yours and enjoy it then your friends and then everyone from every dimension and no one will stop me!!
Lupus: Hey, do you know any songs you can use to shut this guy up.
Melody: Not really, do you have any ideas.
Lupus: Nope. (thinks: If I had any ideas do you really think I would ask you for some advice)
Melody: Well the best defense is a good offense.
(Melody and Lupus are caught of guard by the Manager's speed but luckily Melody is able to retaliate with using her flute to block a punch that was meant for her face. Lupus who goes into Wolf-Mode charges the Manager, with both of the two exchanging blows with one another. However, the Manager quickly gets the upper hand and knocks Lupus out of Wolf Mode and unconscious.)
Manager: (deranged tone) Well well.. looks like the little doggy isn't going to be fighting anymore I can take his soul later but right now.... I still gotta take care of you ... Melody was it?
Melody (backing away) What do I do.... What can I do... I'm not much of a fighter ..... and I don't even know any songs for this stupid flute.....You hear that Guider lady ..... I don't know any songs for this flute .... and you expect me .. to go on this quest ... and defend myself.... how can I.
(Melody backs into a wall and watches the Manager comes towards her like before chanting. He grabs her and throws her down onto the seal and begins to reach down her throat and pull her soul out. A light starts to appear on the ground during the process, the light materializes into a song sheet. Melody reads it from a distance and deduces that it's perfect for the situation she's in. With the last of her strength, Melody uses her flute and delivers bone-shattering blow to the Manager's skull. The Manager let's go of Melody's soul writhing in pain. Melody's soul returns back to her body and she sprints to the area where the song sheet is located.
Manager: (Groveling in Pain) Wha- What.. are ..you doing?
(Melody doesn't answer his question and plays the song with her flute. The results of the song show the numerous souls, that were eaten by the Manager being ripped from his body, finally being put to rest. The Manager walks over to Melody feebly in an attempt to take her soul as well. )
Manager: Give...it...to ...me...it's ...mine..
(With the last soul being ripped from his body the Manager falls to his knees and dies right in front of Melody. Lupus, finally awakens after the battle looking around for Melody before finally finding her)
Lupus: Hey, you okay?
Melody: Yeah, I'm fine it's just that.... I've never actually killed anyone before.
(Lupus pats Melody on the shoulder)
Lupus: I understand how hard it can be, but that guy was a bad guy so you did a good thing by killing him because now who's soul is he gonna take.
Melody: (smirks) Yeah that's true.. well I guess we better go.
Lupus: Alright.
(Melody and Lupus walk out of the room into the suite to explain everything to a shocked Mike and Fangs.
Fangs: Wow, all that happened.
Melody and Lupus: Yup
Mike: And we missed all of it.
Melody: Pretty much.
Fangs: Man, I knew we should have never come here.
