Chapter 654: I swear
*Minato is sitting just outside the Hokage’s office in a very depressed mood*
Minato (thinking): I wonder what they are talking about inside… well, it can’t be that important…
*Meanwhile, inside the room, Jiraiya is seen talking with the Third Hokage*
Jiraiya: Please, you’ve got to believe me! This boy is the one!
Sarutobi: Even if I did so….the boy has recently gone through the experience of seeing two of his friends killed in front of him. His mind is still fresh, Jiraiya…give him time to absorb what just happened…
Jiraiya: Time is precious! And there is nothing for him here! The boy’s friends are dead and he has no parents! The only thing that keeps him in this village is your permission, so please, sensei! Training this boy…this is what the elder toad was talking about, I’m sure of it! Please…for old times…
Sarutobi: *Sighs* I see then…there is no stopping you….You may leave the village with the boy today at dawn.
Jiraiya: Thank you, lord third! You won’t regret it, I will give you back one of the greatest shinobi this village has ever seen!
Sarutobi: I hope so, Jiraiya…I hope so…
Jiraiya: *Gets out of the room* Minato, I- *Looks at the empty seat next to the Hokage`s office entrance* Well, well…where could that kid have gone…

*Minato Is seen seated on top of the Third Hokage`s head in the Hokage monument watching the village*
Minato: *Sighs* Sensei… you guys … Takemaru… Kagai… I’m so sorry
*Jiraiya lands behind him*
Jiraiya: Hey, Minato… it’s not polite to leave others alone when they ask you to wait.
Minato: …
Jiraiya: Hey…*Sits next to the boy* It’s not your fault…
Minato: It IS my fault, sensei…how will I explain to their families I couldn’t fight enough to protect them? How can I be Hokage….if I can’t even protect my loved ones?! I CAN’T!! I JUST CAN’T!! *Starts crying again*
Jiraiya: Calm down, you shouldn’t blame yourself…
Minato: Why not?! It is my fault! At the time they were killed all I wanted was that guiy dead but…once I killed him…I realized… vengeance won’t bring Kagai and Takemaru back, sensei. Nothing will.
Jiraiya: Its true…it won’t…but you`ve got to learn Minato…there is something I need to teach you…its about the cycle of hatred…
Minato: *Stops Crying*The cycle… of hatred?
Jiraiya: The cycle of hatred is what started yesterday when you saw Takemaru and Kagai being killed in front of you. You got possessed by hatred and killed that shinobi. That man, however…must have someone that holds him dear, everyone does…even the loneliest person… this person will be possessed by hatred, much like you did… and eventually come after you…the cycle will repeat itself, necer ending…its only human nature after all…but it’s wrong, it’s what causes so many wars…I will train you, Minato, I want you to exceed the human nature, I am only an old man, at his thirties already! But you…you are young, you have potential… I want you to inherit my will and to end the cycle of hatred I want you to bring peace to this Ninja world.
Minato: Sensei…you will help me get stronger?
Jiraiya: I swear I will. *smiles*
Minato : Then if you swear….*Cleans his tears*…so will I! Be my testimony, sensei!* Stands up and lifts his hand in a fist towards the village* I swear I will do my best and inherit my master`s will! I swear I will end the cycle of hatred and bring peace to the shinobi world! And I swear…*Smiles*…I swear I will get stronger to protect my loved ones, because for today on…that’s my ninja way!
Jiraiya (thinking): This kid…he’s really something else…
Jiraiya: Well, I heard you. *Stands up* We will be leaving today at dawn to train for a very long time, if you want to say any goodbyes, the time is now. So?
Minato: Well…*Blushes* There is someone…

*At sunset Minato is seen talking to Kushina near the village gates while Jiraiya waits outside the village*
Minato:…and that`s why I have to leave, I will be away for quite some time, so… what about that?
Kushina: You`re saying you will leave me alone for how much time?! Two or three years?! That’s a long time, ya know?!
Minato (thinking): Damnit, I overdid it! She will hit me hard…*Closes his eyes and raises his hands in defense*
Kushina: *Kisses Minato in his cheek* Good luck, then.
*Minato suddenly becomes really confuse and a bit stunned*
Minato (Thinking): Did that just happen…?*blushes* Wow….
Jiraiya: Hey Minato!! Hurry up there!!
Kushina: Well…you better get going…
Minato: Yeah…see you, Kushina chan!*Smiles before running towards Jiraiya* Im coming, sensei!!
Jiraiya: So… how was it with your little girlfriend, huh?
Minato (blushing hard): That’s none of your business, pervert sannin…
Jiraiya: Hey! I told you already not to call me that!!
Minato: Well, maybe if you didn’t spy on women…
Jiraiya: Its called research, you hear it?! Research!
Minato: Whatever…lets just keep on going, okay?
Jiraiya: Ok…but don’t call me that again…
*The two start walking towards the sunset*
Kushina (thinking): I hope he will be okay…
*Before leaving Minato turns to the village takes one last look at the Hokage Monument*
Minato: One day…my face will be there….one day…I will be known as Minato Namikaze, the fourth Hokage…I swear!!
Extra Note: A small break from the action, with romance and the classic Naruto theme of fighting the cycle of hatred…I also left a small secret on this chapter, a pairing hint to be exact, not very subtle…let us see who discovers it first…
