i think it's okay. it's always hard to judge other's creative style, since that is pretty much a matter of taste. i prefer a more dark realistic style, but that's just my own taste. i like your drawing of the clothes. the character reminds me of ichigo, especially in the first pic.
about the shadows: watch yourself in a mirror under the same light-conditions, that always helps (i mean that seriously).
think of what throws shadows (chin) and weather that is thin enough so that still light can come through (hair), so that the shadow is way more light than e.g. the one under the chin. remember that the face has a bit a form like a box, therefore sides that are adverted from the light source are shaded.
