I really hope the Guy who started this thread reads this and doesn't make a terrible mistake. its not your dogs fault too many people get dogs and don't know anything about how that particular animal was raised or the mind of a canine. would you buy a parrot and not read a book about the creatures instincts or tendencies? I'm guessing you haven't owened this dog since he was a puppy and his first owners didn't put their hands in his food bowl from a young age. doing this causes a dog to become less defensive over their food. it also could have been an accident when he got excited. dogs live in the moment he probably doesn't remember what happened and would lick your hand if he saw it now. if you can't forgive him or can't afford to take him to a trainer give him to a shelter and say he'd make a good guard dog for someone without children. killing anything isn't good I'm sure there were happy times

Ok weve sedated him. But i think hes still agitated, his tail keeps twitching abruptly from side to side.
Also im pretty sure this is the first time hes gone out of control. Although there was this one time, when i took him for a walk, and he saw this bitch, when we got home he barked all night.

You don't have to put him down, there are places that will rehabilitate aggressive dogs. The question is, what did you do to make him so aggressive? He obviously doesn't trust you or he wouldn't have attacked when you put your hand near his food.
So true. MAybe he didn't like the fact that you were holding his food, dogs especially older males are very protective of their food, so it may have been your fault in which case I say put yourself down, LOL!

these people telling you to harm it are just trying to be funny don't hurt your dog. the mind of a canine is nothing like yours and I'm sure he didn't want to hurt you. like the Guy above me was saying if a dog was raises right you can get in between them and food take Fido to a trainer.

You never stated how long you have the dog. Did you raise him since he was a puppy? And how old is he now? If he never showed any sign of serious aggression before, there must have been something that had agitated him when he attacked you. Did you hold on to the meat too long?
I suggest you go with him to one of those rehabiliation centres where they can teach your dog to behave again. Putting him down for one bite seems a bit cruel, but you certainly must do something about it before he attacks someone else and hurts that person more severely.
Also why do you suspect he ate a cat? I've never heard of dogs eating cats before; sure biting them to death, but not eating, but then again I'm not really a dog person despite the fact that we have a dog.

Anyway, best thing for now is to try and figure out what happened to make him suddenly so angry (especially if you have had him for a long time without any incidents) and then go to a rehabilitation centre or so.

Best of luck with your dog

The only way to properly deal with a dog like that is to either: 1. If the dog is still young, never feed it raw meat like that. Then either try to train it yourself or by a professional trainer to not bite/kill other living things. I have taught my dogs to never bite, jump, or even make any violent actions towards others and my cats.
2. If the dog is indeed older, then I would just turn it into the pound. Do not kill the dog yourself. There might be ways that other people can help the dog to learn what it did wrong.

Dog eat cat = Yes.
Learn to talk to your dog.
Have a Name for your dog.
Take him a walk daily, at do it at the same time of the day.
Always call your dog his Name, and ensure that you call by your usual voice.
Pat on top of his head. Sometimes let him lie down and play with him.
NOTE: When you talk to your (or any) dog, make sure you stood down to his eye level with your eye.
Go the Vet for check-up. There is possible something annoying him, like certain sound (voice tone that we cannot hear at all).
When you go out, say bye bye to the dog.
When you come back, call by his Name and just play with him for awhile.
Dogs like human, can feel lonely without anyone......................

was he foaming at the mouth?

edit: If he was foaming at the mouth then he may have rabies, and if he does then he will need to be put down, and you need to get shots.

If he was simply being aggressive, then there are a variety of things to do.

If he is young, then it should be much easier. Simply you have to show him your the boss(leader of the pack) Once you achieve this he wont mess with you and wont want to.

My dad is the leader of our 2 dogs and all he has to do when those 2 dogs get in a fight is yell briefly at them, and they will stop. because they dont wanna mess with the papa.

This approach is the best approach. IS simply esstablish that you are the leader, and make him not want to mess with you.

Now another good option to do is to neuter him, if you have not done so already. Unless you plan on him having puppies, then there isnt much reason to not do this. Doing this will decrease his aggression, and cause him to be less dominate(as he wont have those hormones rageing through his system.

UNLESS YOU HAVE DONE AT LEAST 1 OF THE ABOVE, DO NOT FEED HIM MEAT THAT WAY.

If you want to give him scraps, make sure to put it in his food bowl.

Shooting is not a good option no matter what.

If you still have troubles, you can always ask the vet, or go to a dog forum.

As i dont know what breed he is I cant give more specific details, but from your theory that it ate a cat, i assume is is a medium/large dog.

If he is the size mentioned above, then you should be able to fight back if neccesary. You can hit him about as hard as you would hit a 8-10 year old kid, if they attacked you.

All of this is from my semi limited expierance with dogs. As i have raised 2 from when they were young, and one from a pound, and the other a stray, and both are mutts,(and medium sized).

THE NUMBER 1 THING TO DO NO MATTER WHAT, IS TO NOT FEEL FEAR NEAR THE DOG. DO NOT FEAR IT. IT CAN SENSE IT. This is from expieriance with a neighborhood pitbull, (large) that my siblings and i used to play with. Sometimes it became rough, and seemed aggressive.

The dog attacked you, making you bleed, and you think it ate the neighbor's cat. It's gotten a taste for blood. Put it down, or eat it. I think it's too late for the dog. If you think it's gross or unlawful to eat dogs, then I think you're American, you live in America, and don't know about other countries. I think North America (not sure about Canada) is the only country left that don't really eat dog, because they are "man's best friend" here.
It's also illegal. :|

Im pretty upset about this. I was feeding him meat when he left the meat and attacked. It got pretty bad. Im thinking ima have to shoot him but then again what if this was just a one time thing? You know like a phase? My hands still bleeding plus i think he ate the neighbours cat. Any advice on the situation?
Your going to put down this dog for your stupid mistake? Some people... I thought everyone knew this, that when you feed a dog, leave it alone. Dogs are very defensive over there food, and if you're in there way, that's your fault if you get bit.
