?Jesus, could you have been just a little more tactless, oh-so-wise Hokage-sama??
?Shut yer' trap, Shikamaru. I?ve dealt with enough crap about delicacy today.?
??Leave all the blood and guts to me?? Lazyboy has a point there.?
?Hey, Ashiru didn?t die in the end. I really shouldn?t be hearing any complaints.?
??The doctor said that he is now paralyzed from the neck down. From what I hear, he can only move his left pinky.?
?Bastard deserved it.?
?Pretty much all of the council agrees with you. But that doesn?t mean you can go around randomly destroying foreign relations.?
?Pfft. We?re ninja for God?s sake! We don?t care about petty things like foreign relations.?
?I think I should really put more consideration into that petition for your resignation.?
?Ah, Sakura-chan, so cruel!?
After being harassed by paperwork and the general population, Naruto and his two advisors had decided to wander around Suna, the host of the Council of the Six Nations. There really was nothing much to see, but annoying Gaara grew old quickly and everyone wanted lunch.
The salty smell of desert food attacked their nostrils, and shadowy merchants poked them with all kinds of probably illegal goods. However, one auction stand in particular caught Sakura?s attention, and the other two people were dragged over into seeing it.
?Big, strong fellow starting at one thousand ryu! All teeth are still around and a record of good behavior! Do I have a bidder? Gentleman in the red jacket for fifteen hundred!?
It was a slave market, something that was formerly banned but resurrected after the war. Naruto was doing everything in his power to abolish the industry, and so far had accomplished making it illegal in the reconstructed Kohona. But the Kazekage had far less influence in his own village than the Hokage, and Gaara couldn?t do more than place a slight tax on the merchants without being bombarded by lobbyers.
The fast-mouthed auctioneer then pulled out a rebelling individual by the chain around his neck. ?This has been sticking around for the past few weeks. It?s strong alright, but has a record covered with so many red marks I have to sell it next to nothing. Anyone from the mines want to bid for him at seventy ryu? Aw hell, I?ll give him away to anyone who spent more than five thousand!? The auctioneer tried to shove the thrashing slave towards a cruel looking man, who duly refused. Naruto was somewhat amused, and pushed through the crowds to get a closer look at the ?product?. He looked awfully familiar. Red triangles on the cheeks. Brown, wild hair. Almost like Inuzuka Kiba, who was proclaimed missing in action.
Then something struck Naruto. He was Kiba. Naruto slapped his forehead and plowed his way towards him.
?Get your dirty hands off my merchandise, foreigner.?
Naruto was pissed off as it was, with the council on his ass. Now that he had the perfect reason to blow off some steam, he socked the auctioneer with a good deal of chakra added. The greasy man crumpled to the ground, writhing with the pain of several broken ribs and probably a hemorrhage. Kiba snickered at the sight, and then looked around to see the face of his savior.
?Holy shit, it?s the idiot!?
Naruto playfully punched Kiba?s shoulder. Then he cut off the chains and collars with a simple blade sharpened with his chakra. ?I don?t think that?s the way a damsel in distress should treat his knight in shining armor, much less the Hokage. Where the hell have you been, ya? sonnuva bitch? Everyone thought you were dead after Akamaru came back alone.?
Kiba smiled and turned around, almost proudly. Naruto stifled a gasp as a lopsided grid of oozing lacerations revealed itself on the man?s dirty back. ?I?ve been going through an all-time low in my life, as you can see. But I certainly haven?t kicked the bucket.?
?I don?t mean to downsize you, but aren?t you a jounin? I would think that even at half strength you could kick a slave driver?s ass and escape.?
Kiba looked down at his feet. ?Yeah, you?d think that with the rest of my team gone, the bastards would have nothing to hold against me. But?I have my reasons.?
Naruto lifted an eyebrow. ?Pray tell, what are they??
A shadow fell over Kiba, but he grabbed Naruto?s wrist and started to walk quickly.
?You?ll see.?
