I agree to an extent. The Byakugan is superior to the 3-tomoe Sharingan but the only thing is that Ranmaru's dojutsu is superior to the Byakugan. I don't know how that is supposed to work since the Byakugan and Sharingan are derived from the Rinnegan, however Ranmaru's dojutsu is seen to have no connection with the Rinnegan. :dunno:

I personally think that it would've been awsome if the Byakugan somehow evolved into the Elder Son's dojutsu. That would be epic and bam! The Hyuga's might actually get lucky to surpass the Uchiha since Elder Son's Dojutsu >/= Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan.

Look at Kakashi before he discovered MS. He was stronger than the Hyuuga clan. Also if sharingan > byakugan then shouldn't they be able the pawn the uchiha clan before the founding of Konoha, why weren't they placed higher than Uchiha clan in terms of power?

Byakugan is indeed better than a average 3 tomoe Sharingan user.People think every Uchiha can use genjutsu at Itachi's caliber but that's certainly not the case.

Reading movements > 3 tomoe Sharingan
Neji was able to stop raining spiders something that is really difficult to do due to their size.

Taijutsu and Insight > Sharingan in general.
