Highly unorthodox swordplay and a fighting style based on breakdancing - dubbed "champuru kendo" and ostensibly developed by himself - taking bits and pieces from all forms of martial arts and making up the rest as he fights his opponents, make him a force to be reckoned with although it looks like capoeira. His limitations were further exploited in his fight with his friend Ryou while on a small boat, as his inability to fight well in small areas was shown. This is further evident in that his moves become increasingly erratic and unique as his opponents are more powerful. He carries two blades, his principal weapon a unique sword with a curved blade and a hilt with two prongs sheathed across his back and the other a small tanto concealed at the end of his scabbard (only resorted to as a trump card). His main weapon appears to be an amalgamation of the okinawan sai and Japanese katana. Mugen also has a tendency to parry attacks with the steel base of his geta. His clothing is anachronistic as well, his gi functions more like a jacket and his hakama is cut off at shorts-length, resembling loose-fitting Bermuda shorts. His black hair is unkempt and similar to an afro or Spike Spiegel's.

Background Info.
History:
Mugen (無限) was born on the Ryukyu Islands. His name means without limitation, as the components of it are the characters for "without" and "limitation." Incidentally, he writes his name using the infinity symbol (∞), a pun on his name, 'Mugen,' which is a homophone of the Japanese word for 'eternity'. As a kid he didn't do much of anything besides get in trouble. He was alway's fighting since the age of six, and usually always had a problem with someone.
At the age of 12 he met a man named Insau Takashi, A skilled ninja from the land of fire, he was also a missing ninja, and many were out to kill him. Mugen went with him everywhere and thought of him as a father as they trained everyday. He tought Mugen the basic ninjutsu techniques first such as clone technique, rope escape etc. Insau had an affinity with water techniques, but to his surprise Mugen loved fire.. And got all the way up to Fire ball jutsu at the age of only 12. He was 12 when he was first introduced to his sword which he would then use to defend himself only as a pre-teen. Mugen and Insau visited the hidden mist when they rested after a long trip, Mugen woke up and Insau was gone. After that he lived outdoor's and sometimes at an old dude's house that wanted to help him out but mostly Mugen would ignore him. At the age of 16 he met Ryou (now his best friend) while helping him fend off a bunch of thieves that tried to steal from Ryou and afterwards they were going to kill him, otherwise Mugen wouldn't have helped. They got into trouble together until the age of 20 when they were leaving the Ryukyu islands on a boat that got attacked by pirates and Mugen got knocked unconcious and found himself washed up in an unknown area in the fire country. Ryou's whereabouts are still unknown to Mugen.
His Japanese is quite rough. The exact date of his birth is unknown, and much of his past is shrouded in mystery. It also appears that he may be of Ainu origin, from the style of his clothes, and Mugen himself commenting that he grew up on the same music an Ainu fugitive was playing, though the Ainu man came from the far North, and Mugen came from the far south. As for his parents, Mugen never knew who they were. The blue tattoos on his wrists and ankles indicate that he was once in prison. The circumstances of his imprisonment are unclear, but it is verified that he was to be executed for engaging in piracy.
