Exactly. Its ridiculous to put Obito over Madara, when all he had was born without parents and losing a girl that never loved him. Compared to Madara's loss, its pathetic.

I would say Nagato and Sasuke at #1 and 2 seeing your parents get killed has got to be hell when you are a child. Then I would have to say Gaara at 3 and Naruto at 4. Gaara before Naruto because of his family trying to kill him so often otherwise they both went through the same daily hell of being despised and tormented for being jinchurikis. I would put Yamato at 5.

Who had the worst childhoods/backstories in the series?
To me, it goes like this:
1. Sasuke, for watching his family get dead by his brother.
2. Gaara, for surviving his uncle's attempted murder and having to survive his father's assassins
3. Kabuto, for having to kill his mother in self defense because she didn't know who he was
4. Obito, for growing up without parents and watching his "best friend" murder the only thing he truly loved
5. Nagato, for growing up near defenseless in a war zone and watching his best friend get dead

Really puts Naruto's childhood in perspective :|

Well Kabutos past is the most ****ed up and tragic, All he ever wanted was a home and it turns out he had one all this time. Listening to his brother talk about him to fodder ninja 27,856 really kicked me in the gut...

Narutos is just tear jerking if you think deeply into it, prologue to road to ninja really backs me up on this. At the end of the day, naruto is alone :/ he has no family to return to, no dad to make proud or a mom to make him breakfast or nag him about chores :/ That and he's been treated like dirt for as long as he can remember and had no clue why.

And Gaara is just like naruto except 10 times more ****ed up since his families out to get him.

But i gotta give the crown to Sasuke Uchiha. Imagine everything in your life going so right, you got your dads acknowledgement, you just started out your training and your main drive is to one day be as good as your loving big brother who you idolize and look up to more than jesus christ himself, coming home one day with none around, friends and family members gone, nothing but silence. Then stumbling upon your mom and dads dead bodies blood everywhere. And then the light shines upon the one responsible... your big brother.. and his reasoning is on a whim... to test out his strength. Then he literally makes sasuke stand there and watch his friends and family get butchered and slaughtered left and right for 3 days straight. Only to wake up... think its a dream... walk home and realize this is the reality for you now.

Honorable mentions to Nagato a close second and Obito

I'd say it's Sasuke, Gaara, Kabuto, and then Nagato.
