Most Tragic Backgrounds

Who had the worst childhoods/backstories in the series?
To me, it goes like this:
1. Sasuke, for watching his family get dead by his brother.
2. Gaara, for surviving his uncle's attempted murder and having to survive his father's assassins
3. Kabuto, for having to kill his mother in self defense because she didn't know who he was
4. Obito, for growing up without parents and watching his "best friend" murder the only thing he truly loved
5. Nagato, for growing up near defenseless in a war zone and watching his best friend get dead

Really puts Naruto's childhood in perspective :|

He was forced to fight in a war at the age of 10, watched 4 of his brothers die, lost his parents in war, lost his little brother in vain, and lost the trust of his clan as leader because of Tobirama's propaganda, despite the fact he warned them that he will kill them.

Overall, Madara has watched his family and friends die brutally in war. None of those can compare to his background.

It's between Gaara, Nagato and Obito for me. Leaning more towards Gaara....

Yeah, Gaara. He wanted to be happy so bad, he wanted friends, but nobody would accept him because he was a jinchuriki. He had no idea what was going on, and the only person he thought accepted him for who he was tried to kill him and then told him nobody ever loved him. It doesn't get much worse than that for a 6 year old.

Not only this, but he watched all of his "friends"(Other little kids in test tubes) die every day. yamato had it the worst IMO. However, from your list I'd say Nagato. Dude was poor in a rainy ass city with a scrawny ass dog he had to split his meals with. Plus his parents were just killed.

Sure Naruto's background isn't tragic, but it's definetly one of the most depressing, but most tragic... I'd say Madara, became best friends with an unknown enemy and had to fight him for decades, had all his brothers killed and the last one he swoar to protect no matter what was killed infront of him by his bestfriend's/enemy's brother. And before this due to his MS going dark he had to take his beloved brother's eyes. He then became leader of his clan and argued that the Uchiha and Senju should keep fighting but none of them agreed, and out of pure pressure he agreed to peace. He tried to deal with the peace time but his old thoughts of war kept coming back, and was abandoned by his entire clan. In his attempt back into glory he was killed by his soul brother (Hashirama). He then came back to life and had to sit his ass away for the rest of his life just to awaken the rinnegan, and died in the same spot he sat for 50+ years. (you may be thinking this is a short biography and not a background but think about where Madara is in the story at the moment).

Naruto's trauma was consistent over 12 years though. Imagine everyone hating you for 12 years and you don't know the reason.

He has the same trauma as Gaara, but you could say he reacted much better to it. Also Gaara knew the reason why he was hated.

Yup Naruto is #1 for me.
