Probably Jiraiya's. Neji was done too quickly. He hadn't been shown for 30 chapters and suddenly his reintroduction and death was crammed into one chapter out of nowhere.

I know I'm the only one but Fu being sacrificed for Edo Tensei hurt me quite a lot. It was a painful, pointless and undignified death, and yes he was my fave.

Otherwise I don't find well-written deaths that help drive plot forward sad.

Lee's defeat was the saddest one.

Kisame's and Konan's deaths were the most well written and sad ones.

Defeat - Rock lee and Zabuza . That chunin exam fight between Gaara&Lee was one of the best fights in Naruto .

Lee vs Gaara, that was a really sad defeat, no matter how hard he tried, the sand wouldn't budge.

Team Minato vs Enemy Ninja and The Boulder, Although Rin was saved, poor Obito was crushed, one of the most painful/saddest deaths.

Kisame's Suicide was a shocker, not really for the sadness, just for the brutality.

Jiraya died a honest death, fighting to the last moment, even though it seemed he had failed to kill Pein, his intel eventually brought him down.

Truly, very sad/shocking moments.
