In my opinion, Avatar is overrated because it was praised so much and when i got down to watching it myself, i felt that it didn't meet the expectations i formed based on the praise...But thats just me.

First of Avatar RULES!!!
Movies are about the experience, you can say whatever, but Avatar did bring "the experience" to a whole new level!
As for overrated, i'd go with Inception as well, yeah that's right i said it!
Shutter island which came out around the same time was a way better movie then Inception imo.

Avatar is not all about special effects, High graphics is just its plus point. >_> Normally in a film like this, you can see a few mistakes here and there, but I didn’t catch any. From Sam Worthington’s tiny legs to the computers within the scenes, every detail was thought out and used as a part of the environment. Cameron truly created a world of his own, which makes you truly feel as if you’ve been transported into a new world while watching the film. The Acting is just extremely well. It’s amazing how much of the actors emotions you could see through their Avatar characters. Zoe Saldana (Neytiri) gave an especially emotional and strong performance, and you never even saw her real face. >_> Epic fight sequences, brilliant story, impeccable special effects, what else you want?
Exactly. There have been greater washouts in terms of storyline. Avatar may not have a great plot but it's a real cinematic treat to the eyes. For me, the presentation deserves all the credits. From the grass to the rocks to the facial expressions to the robotic details. Everything was so finely presented in 3D than you can just keep saying 'WOW' in your heart. Can you imagine the effort to present such details with technological advancement only. Avatar succeeded because it made the cinema a real boost with the 3D. That's sufficient even if it's story is mostly copied and not so great.

That's real graphic. It's a new nature that was created. The concept may be rip-off but you need to applaud to Cameron to present his fantasy in such perfect detail. I went to the cinema to see it only to see how much cinema graphics advanced with this 3D technology. The rest (acting, story...) came 2nd on my list. I was so bluffed by the graphics that it was sufficient for me and hence, it's enormous success wasn't surprising for me. Sometimes, visual surpasses the story and that's what happened with Avatar. Many of you may not like this logic but it's innovative.
And innovation should be encouraged. So stop bashing a movie uselessly.

I wonder why Twilight wasn't bashed more as it's evident that it's the most overrated movie of this last decade.

i would say titanic. i had a better ending for it. the end when shes gonna put the diamond in the ocean jack appears behind her as a ghost it seems hes gonna hug her but suddenly pushes her off the ship as a sort of closeure cause of her selfishness to hog the peice of wood.

Well if you notice, Leo disappears into the water at the end and then in Inception he wakes up on a movie. Its a movie within a movie...
