It is completely clear that getting revived is pure luck on Madara's part. Obito was acting on his own and wanted to use Madara's plan for himself.
Why did Madara need Obito in the first place to carry out the plan?
He could simply beat Nagato and Obito and make them loose their consciousness in his hideout. Then he would die and make Zetsu control Nagato's body to use Rinne Tensai on himself. If that somehow failed then Obito could be used.
After getting revived, he could start bijju collection himself.
No one at that time had the capability to beat him. It would ensure his victory.
