Let's jump Right Into It
Keep in mind guys, you dont have to be able to tank attacks to have a great defense. With that being said lets get started.
Example A

So far in this manga there has only been TWO characters that were able to land a legit blow to minato and both those guys were Juubi Jins. People like to use this to down minato but if you ask me that pretty damn good seeing that only god tier can bust his ass
Being able to effortlessly dodge and redirect attacks like childs play with FTG imo is far better than a double edge sword like Susanoo(if you do not have ems) Looking back at all the defensive steps le sauce had to use to keep raikage off of him(susanoo+amaturasu=enormous chakra consumption) it just seems so much easier to jump around your opponent 2 or 3 times before he can even react.
Conclusion

In this scan Minato performs a feat that can only be done by himself tobirama and sasuke. You could call it some type of low budget intangibility. Obviously no where near that of obitos but still good enough to get him out of some serious trouble.

Also here, its true that you can touch him, but as soon as you do he just FTG's away from any more danger. Thus making it difficult to seriously wound him. Unless its with the first strike i.e. juubi jin maddy
Other examples are Minato vs raikage & Minato vs juubi jin maddy and obito where he quicky escapes after being wounded. This type of ability makes Minato a living hell to challenge in taijutsu...ask raikage=D

Moving On to Example B
It's obviously a tad more difficult to FTG away from attacks with a huge blast radius. If a proper marking isn't far enough away from the blast, jumping there will still get you GG'd. That's where teleporting the attack away aka s/t barrier comes in handy. I shouldn't have to post these scans but ill do it anyway
Also, if you're thinking of countering me with prep time bs i'll counter back with this...hand seal difficulty is ONE PANEL
And for style points(since there is a radius invovled with FTG) Minato's kunai would be enough to send whatever attack away with little effort
