People that have the Rinnengan, and that have access to it can use its abilities. Nagato for example, could use all of its abilities. All abilities are acquired after awakening the Rinnengan, which takes a lot of time, as seen in Madara. Well mostly takes a lot of time, since Madara awoke it before death. So Rinnengan users can use Rinne Tensei. Madara was going to use Obito to force him to activate Rinne Tensei on Madara so he could be revived. Madara has Rinnengan too. Why can't he revive himself? He has unlimited chakra because he is an Edo Tensei. He can also use his Rinnengan. Could have just revived himself or summoned the Gedo Mazou or something like that, or am I missing some kind of an explanation in the manga about Rinne Tensei and Edo Tensei?

Because the technique is supposed to take away a person's life force. I don't even think an edo has any life force.

hmmm...good question. Maybe Rinne Tensei doesnt work if you're an Edo because a dead person can't give life.

Should explain why Nagato and Obito wanted to use it quickly before they passed away

Because logically, you couldn't revive yourself if you are dead. Rinne Tensei wasn't created when Edo Tensei came to be. Plus, that you basically have no real life as an Edo.

It's a technique meant to substitute ones life force for another's so you can't use it on yourself until kishi's proves otherwise.

As an Edo tensei, you are still dead. But you have chakra. Chakra is needed for Rinne Tensei. So, what I think is that if Madara would just use his chakra, he would revive himself, FULLY. He wasn't alive, and he had chakra meaning he could have use it to revive himself.

Everyone says it takes a huuuuuuge amount of chakra, that the Gedo Mazo can handle or something like that, and you say Obito is still alive because he has a massive pool of chakra. So he doesn't substitute life force for another life force, but a major amount of chakra for life force, and Edo Tensei have unlimited chakra. Which in this case proves that it is a plot hole. If however, you use Rinne Tensei and end up with no chakra, you die.

Maybe Rinne Tensei has nothing to do with chakra.

Nagato was an Uzumaki, Uzumaki's have HUGE life forces.

In the last chapter, we heard the Kyuubi say the Gedo Mazou has a huge life force as well.

The only connection between Nagato and Gedo host Obito is the Life force.

Since Nagato was connected the Gedo Mazou, he could use both life forces to revive an enormous amount of people.

Maybe Obito was going to do the same, use the Life force of the Gedo Mazou to revive the alliance.

Since Madara is an Edo tensei, he has no life force, therefore he can't revive anyone.

This could be pretty far off, but you all see my logic right?

rinnegan user 7th path is between life and death, he can make alot of good stuff or bring some serious sh** up. Rinne tensei will take your life to work. Edo tensei are immortal bodies, therefore they cannot be 'sacrifised' for the technique, madara just waited obito to get weak so he could force him to use rinne tensei on himself, but naruto TALK NON JUTSUED him ( nobody is save ) and madara got he's changes to use it ( in short... obito is/was alive that moment, madara was edo = dead at the moment, obito's life force was sacrificed so madara can live again.. ) simple.

Its a matter of whether you believe it takes life force to use the technique properly for such a resurrection or simply chakra. If it simply requires a lot of chakra, then yes its a plothole for sure. When it comes to Nagato's use of the jutsu, yes it seems only chakra is required. But what Obito used is an offshoot of this jutsu that we cannot fully understand yet, so yes sacrifice of personal life force may be needed for this form of the jutsu.

Neither one of them were in danger of dying.

obito is alive because of the life force of gedou mazou, not because of huge amounts of chakra.

I have a theory behind this plot hole, since it wasn't fully explained.

When Naruto talked with Nagato in the end of the Pain Arc, it is stated that Nagato was the Seventh Path of Pain, he had access to the Path of Life and Death.

Based on this, my bet is that Edo Tensei have sealed all abilities related to this Path. They are not at full power after all.

It is simple if you think about it. Rinne tensei requires both enough amount of chakra dependant of number of people you want to revive and amount of time passed since their deaths AND Life force

Living body: chakra + life force= Rinne tensei can be used
Edo tensei body: chakra= Rinne tensei can not used

Also if RT only required Chakra... then Juubi Jin Obito who has close to infinite amount of it... could spam Rinne tensei.

Another explanation is that: Only living body has access to seven path of the Rinnegan(Control over life and death)

I hope it clear your doubts
