The art of Kenjutsu is a unique one.
It is not only the ability of using the sword in the deadliest fashion, but to develop a relationship with it.
Being one with it.

With the words of a wise Samurai ages ago, I prepare to take my training a new step forward.
"Let us hope, Adachi-sensei arrives soon"

Somewhere along the back of my mind, I had met with this particular student before and given the wizened, hard look within his eyes, he was definitely not a newcomer to the workings of the Ninja World.

The Training Field was unfortunately crowded today, but I was able to pick out a quiet spot beneath some trees near the forest. Since it was not elemental training this time around, it was not a potent issue. After a brief greeting, I questioned my student: "Why might you want to learn Kenjutsu? Furthermore, do you possess your own sword?"

The dragonbane.
It comes to my every time I hear the word "sword".
Looking with exciting gaze I politely reply " Yes, sensei. Infact, I posses my own other arm. Another soul actually."
It was pride within me that I had won several battles with the sword.
"So, how long till we start? Shall we begin when the crowd is less; preferably under the moon light?

The response was no less expected from a seasoned shinobi, one that only sought further mastery over his current skills and abilities. "So, how long till we start?" he questioned. "Shall we begin when the crowd is less; preferably under the moon light?"

Upon hearing his words, I cast a glance into the sky, noting the position of the afternoon sun. The sky was colored over by dark orange in anticipation of the approaching nighttime. "Perhaps in due time," I responded. "It would be rather suitable for the more advanced techniques. However, let us start with the basics."

Forming several handseals, I called upon a target dummy that was rapidly summoned directly before my student and me. I withdrew my own sword, holding it by the sheathed blade as I indicated parts of the body with the weapon's handle. "When striking with your sword," I begun explaining. "You must be very precise about the area with which you strike with. Different areas, different results. You could seek to directly merely disable someone, injure them, or even directly incapacitate them. The situation varies from battle to battle. Furthermore, as Kenjutsu is a close range art, you need to be wary of certain other close ranged techniques such as Taijutsu or Gentle Fist - the closer you are to your opponent, the shorter the range and less time you have to react to certain techniques."

I took a few steps back, indicating for him to follow me in my steps as I halted at about ten meters from the dummy. "Now demonstrate for me a single-handed slash upon my dummy," I instructed. "Take note the distance, the hand with which you strike with, and the area you strike as well. There are many other aspects that come into play as well, but let's begin with these for now."

The time was coming, sensei did not know.
The approaching red glow of sunset was indicating blood shed- war among the villages about to happen. Thoughts drifted away for a second as I remembered the past battles. The ones where his comrades fell; tortured and killed ruthlessly. He had been unable to do anything- bound by his own severely wounded body. It was only a second of dreadful sights, he focused to sensei with sweat beads on forehead.
"...start with the basics", he finished to an unknown statement.
As I notice training dummy being called upon, I realise it was time. Firmly with eyes placed on sensei, I hear his instructions and his knowledge- something I missed when away to missions.
"Take note the distance, the hand with which you strike with, and the area you strike as well. There are many other aspects that come into play as well, but let's begin with these for now.", he concluded to an excellent description.
I had followed him to the initiating position in front of the dummy with a clear mind where to strike and what I was aiming for.
Taking about 5 step backwards, about three feet away from the dummy, I begin.
I stand straight towards the dummy with my shoulders parallel to my feet. Then I place my right foot slightly forwards whilst shuffling it a few paces and not lifting and at the same time shuffle my left foot backwards.
Then, I clench my fists and to my sides and the outer hand facing downwards. Then take my left hand placing it onto the scabbard at at left side and take my right to unsheathe the katana, whilst taking a vicegrip at a 45 degree angle at the base of the hilt and unsheathe the katana. As I bring it fully out the scabbard I bring my left hand taking the same grip to the bottom of the hilt and then level the hilt to my belly at about a fist distance away then raise the blade to point at dummy's throat and keep the stance with the same posture maintaining.
Steady and balanced.
I raise my sword at the center of my body where I maintain a constant position with my hands above my head and then bring my arms down in a strong vertical motion, aiming at the dummy's head as my right foot is taken for the attack and my left foot backwards, I bring my sword to the original position I slash down my sword to the neck.
"Sensei, is anything wrong?"

Adachi frowned slightly - a kind of haze had washed over his student's eyes, but he continued speaking nonetheless. It was a disturbing sight, however, one that was all too familiar for one like him. In the long past, when he was still a part of a village, the ANBUs and higher ranking shinobis would arrive back from their assigned missions. Some, headed directly to the bar to celebrate, however, others, stumbled in a daze, their eyes staring into empty space, the meaning to their life never to be found again.

Fortunately, it didn't appear to be at such unfortunate a stage for his student, who snapped back to attention when he finished delivering the aforementioned instructions. With precise concentration and focus, he proceeded to dash up to Adachi's clone, slicing it with precise aim and concentration. The sword slid back easily into its sheathe as the student turned to his sensei with a questioning glance.

"I have nothing to more to add about the execution of your technique," Adachi told him with an approving nod. "So allow me to discuss in brief the basic technique. What I asked you to perform was a single handed slash, however, the other variant was the two-handed slash. Now, using either one has both its advantages and disadvantages. Taking into body momentum, body weight along with gravity, could you proceed to tell me with what you know the kinds of situations that would be proper nor improper for either an one-handed slash or a two-handed along with its differing qualities."

It was always good to be cautious despite the fatigue that followed.
Panting due to slight strain from the violent, yet controlled slash of the huge dragonbane, I feel rather happy getting the nod.
"..could you proceed to tell me with what you know the kinds of situations that would be proper or improper for either an one-handed slash or a two-handed along with its differing qualities"
Hmph.
Slightly frowning I reply, "Momentum takes the body towards its line of action. Body moves in the direction of applied velocity. It is the basic concept to be remembered by a Kenjutsu user. If body weight is shifted too much, the user will swing in a uncontrolled motion and will tend to get caught in counter-attack."
Extending my arm outwards, I explain "It is dangerous to perform a strong two handed slash in most scenarios since we are more prone to counter-attacks. A balanced two-handed Kenjutsu style is usually the most dangerous, however most people don't manage it since it is less quick then one handed."
I thus perform a quick slice with my right hand on a nearby tree, slicing the bark neatly. I let my grip slightly loose and let the weight of the sword and fluidity of motion do its trick. "A one-handed slash is quicker, neater and would be used in most scenarios especially when opponent isn't a kenjutsu expert. It is versatile with elemental attacks as well." Thinking for quite a while I give in and look at sensei in the eyes, "It seems my lack of knowledge has struck yet again. Tell me, sensei, what else is missing? "

Woops. I accidentally switched to third person, this is the only thread that uses first. <_<
"Your take on momentum is accurate," I responded. "In a two-handed technique, it is easy to lose balance or get counter-attacked due to what you just said. The same scenario also applies for stabs, where you are forcing the entire weight of your body forward. It is, however, as you also mentioned, stronger than an one-handed strike though an advantage that the one-handed slash has would be that it allows the user to free up the other hand to for physical attacks or the usage of another weapon or ninja tool. We will derive into more detail as the lesson progresses, however, you covered nearly everything."

Putting my two hands together, I formed the Tiger seal, creating a clone about five meters away from my student. "Now, carefully measure the distance between you and my clone," I instructed him. "Take note of the stance you choose and the way you hold your sword. Once you have prepared yourself, run forward to meet my clone and strike him as many times as you wish with your weapon, but be focused on the areas you choose to attack. Upon reaching the pinnacle of damage dealing, proceed to demolish my clone with one, final strong slash."

Aah, time for the clone-hunt, I was rather not surprised.
There were so many countless occasions of clone massacre, with sensei alone.
However, it was quite relieving to hear my knowledge hadn't failed too bad. Proceeding in front of the clone without a word, I stand with my shoulders parallel to feet, keeping a stable centre of gravity. Proceeding with a slight step forward with my right foot and body bent, I perform an upward one-handed(right) slash through the chest while keeping my arms loose.
Since my grip isn't too tight, I almost release the sword mid-way when my arm is at your clone's shoulder height. Then with left foot forwards, I slam down my sword through the collar bone of your clone using two hands.
*Poof*
"Uhh, sensei. I thought the initial slash would be almost a diversion ; a quick attack that confuses and cause opponent's natural body senses to 'bend' inwards like when being punched in the gut. Then, the body posture of opponent would be perfect for me to perform a disabling move"

The sword was moved into my student's hand in a practiced manner as he turned to face my clone. In a few slashes, it vanished rapidly as he turned to me for my assessment. "You didn't do exactly what I asked you to," I commented. "But what I instructed and what you did was nonetheless freeform. You could have started by running to build momentum, but what you did was fine too. The 'fake' slash was commendable, it reminds me of a certain stance to take to deceive your opponents (picture below) and was certainly an interesting take on my instructions."

I motioned for him to take a few steps back and then motioned at a patch of grass somewhere in the distance that grew unevenly from the rest of the ground. "Judging from the distance, that appears to be about five meters away. Now, I'd like you to begin with a running start this time to build up momentum and once you are near that area, I'd like you to time a jump that would send you into the air directly above the patch of grass. Once you are in midair, focus your body weight downwards and utilizing gravity, point your blade in the middle of the area to deliver a direct stab downwards. However, before you do this, explain to me the advantages and disadvantages of being in short range when clashing with your opponent."

People like Dean xD

Dean makes his way to the training grounds where a student would be waiting for him. Hopefully he wasn't one of those weird ones, but who wasn't weird these days? With a bag on his back, and determination in it (also known as a bottle of Gin), Dean arrived. On his right hip was a sword, a bag on his back and his usual expression on his face.

"Well, hello there. I am Dean Winchester of the Nekura Clan, and I will be training you in the arts of Kenjutsu. I see Adachi left you hanging.... for a while."

Dean then whispered to his new student in a comedic manner.

"He did that to me too."

Dean then looked around, perhaps Adachi was hiding in the shadows, ready to beat Dean with a stick. He was always one for theatrics. Nonetheless, Dean smiled and looked at his student.

"Now perform the last technique Adachi taught you, then we'll start with my way of doing things. What is your name, by the way? I don't want to call you "student" throughout the whole training. Now Go Go Go!!!"

Things were getting pretty weird after getting the message from my new sensei. Adachi had ran off someplace keeping me slept for how long with his 'energy' pills that he gave.
Pills my ass.
I was anxious to meet the so called Dean and when he arrived with that backpack and the look in his face, I was sure it would be weirder. Introducing himself he says
"He did that to me too."
What in the world? It was funny I swear in hell I was dying on the inside.

"Hey there sensei! My name is Pradatta. Thank you for your time"

Hearing his command to perform the last technique I learnt, begin to approach the dummy;
running as I build up my velocity momentum and reaching at about 1.5meters away, I punch him around abdominal region and I jump infront of him. Once in midair, I focus my body weight downwards and let good old gravity do its thing. Pointing my blade downwards towards he chest of the dummy, I slash with my right hand and swich hands while in mid air to finish off

He quickly performed the technique which was last taught to him by Adachi. He did it quite well, it was an easy Kenjutsu technique after all. Dean then swiftly threw a scroll towards Pradatta. This scroll contained the technique that he just learned (my RP way of explaining why I post the technique).

"That's good, Pradatta. Here is the technique you just learned."

Rank: C
Type: Offensive
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 10
Damage points: 25
Description: The user punches the opponent a few times and finishes them with two final slashes with their blade or sword.

"Now, my way of teaching is a bit different from Adachi's. I will explain the technique, then I want you to perform it, give me at least two advantages and disadvantages, how you would use it in battle and if you have questions, be sure to ask!

Now let us begin! The first technique I will be teaching you is quite an easy one. You will start off with your sword in hand, and dash towards the opponent. When you reach close range of the opponent, you will use the handle of your sword to strike the opponent and then deliver several kicks, which will launch the opponent into the air. As the opponent flies through the air, and lands quite far away, you will then dash towards the opponent and slam them into an obstacle. Use it on my clone."

Dean creates a clone that runs towards Pradatta.

A scroll, ehhh
I could feel myself frowning slightly upon recieving that scroll. I read the description and feel pretty satisfied
So Adachi-sensei taught me that? Yohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhsha! Please keep giving me more, eh sensei?
I hear the full details of teaching method and give an approving nod.
As I see the clone come towards me, I run towards it with a sword in my right hand. At almost the perfect range, I body feint to the left, distracting thee clone and with sudden change of direction move forwards while striking the clone's head with the handle. As it staggers, I kick it with my left foot at the side of the knee so that it falls into one knee and I turn my back at it while keeping both arms to the ground and kick it with both my legs(the way a frog jumps) As it flies away, I run towards it while calculating the drop distance as I throw some spikes to the ground. When it is almost about to fall, I use my sword's handle to jab him dowards into the spikes.
With that done, I look towards Dean and his handsome face as I fall in love
begin the description.

If I have done it correctly, I assume this has an advantage of being a technique you can use in any time of the battle. Especially while dealing with hasty enemies, we can easily stagger them- a great advantage on its own while further dealing more damage. Once the opponent is in air, we can also use another technique or even throw damn projecticles. Well, we can also crash them into a more dangerous obstacle but that's it.
The disadvantage is really that it isn't a much strong technique on its own. It is pretty difficult ,even if the opponent stagger, to perform this technique fulls as there are still chances of the enemy dodging the technique. Also, when facing a highly skilled opponent or sharingan user, this technique is pretty flat.
Using this technique is pretty important in the battle if the timing is right. It can be used as a counterattacking measure to the charging opponent or even to initiage. Initiating with this might sound straight forward, we can use a couple of further distractions and then follow up with it. If I were in a battle, it would be one of my moves to counterattack an enemy out of position.

Pradatta had no problem with the next technique either. He did it swiftly, and Dean was quite impressed. He hoped that Pradatta would be consistent through out, as most students always start out strong, but near the end, they start becoming a bit lazy. Nonetheless, Dean threw another scroll towards Pradatta, showing him that he was indeed correct.

"Well done, I liked the analysis. Here you go."

Rank: B
Type: Attack
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: 40
Description: The user bolts in front of the enemy who they then strike with their sword handle before delivering several kicks that sends the enemy into the air. The user then bolts across to the far off location of the enemy who they then punch violently into an obstacle.

"Alright, now the next technique starts off by taking out your blade and dashing towards the opponent. Quite a usual start for a Kenjutsu technique. As you run towards the opponent, you will channel chakra into your blade, and once you reach the opponent, you will perform an upwards slash. This sends the opponent airborne, where you will then appear above the opponent with your blade in hand, and perform a sharp drilling slash downwards. This would impale the opponent, and bring them crashing to the ground. A nice finisher overall, and a fast technique, use it on my clone."

Dean creates a clone that runs towards Pradatta.

Well, sensei is pretty friendly after all.Hearing the positive respnse, I feel pretty happy while reading the second scroll.
The technique was rather simple enough, and then so was its practice,
Thank you, sensei. And YOSH! Bring that clone up!
Upon seeing the new clone coming towards me, I rethink my attack once more as I run at a slower pace than the clone while channeling chakra into my sword placed in my right hand. I also keep a kunai in my left hand.
As the clone runs towards me, I throw the kunai into the foot on the clone from which he loses his balance. After that, I use my wrist for a swift upper slash near the chest of the clone which sends him flying. As it flies upwards, I jump up and infront of its body while holding my sword with both hands and sword facing the chest of the clone as I impale it with a violent downward motion.
After the clone disperes, I face towards Dean slightly panting
As you said, this is a pretty flashy finisher. It can be used in a varity of places; especially when taking advantage of a foe's mistake. It is swift and pretty easy to execute so can be used alot in battle. Uhh.. I think these are pretty much it. For the disadvantage, well, its difficult to pull off the first slash since it can be easily read. It is also difficult to use this as a finisher since any body armor jutsu can stop it. After all, it is not that strong in itself. Well, this type of technique I will certainly use as a finisher. When the opponent is semi consious and wounded, the imapling strike ensures KO.

Sorry for the late reply mate.

He was doing quite well, Dean enjoyed his use of the kunai to make the clone lose his balance. With Kenjutsu, there was always some aura of freedom when performing techniques, as one can easily a small detail in which makes the move more difficult to counter. Dean throws another scroll towards Pradatta, who seemed to be enjoying the training.

"Well done, and the technique would even be more effective if you were faster than your opponent. Imagine using that technique if you had the Eight Inner Gates, it would be so powerful. Here you go."

Rank: B
Type: Attack
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: 40
Description: The user takes out their blade and channels chakra into it. They then run towards the opponent, slashing them upwards into the air and then appear above him/her, and deliver a sharp, drilling slash down upon them, impelling them into the ground.

"Now for the next one, it is quite simple. You will dash towards the opponent, and once you reach at least Mid range distance, you will perform a slash towards the opponent after having channeled some chakra into your sword. As you perform the slash, you will unleash a red wave of chakra in the form of a crescent moon. This red wave of chakra would then hit the opponent, and cause some slashing damage. The best way to explain the technique, is to say it looks like Ichigo's Getsuga Tenshou. Use it on my poor Grimmjow themed clone."

Dean creates a clone that looks like Grimmjow, and dashes towards Pradatta.

No problem at all. Training like these are more enjoyable :)
_____

Yes, well that would be very very powerful.

Listening to the next technique, I found it pretty amusing that someone who looked so young like Dean was training him with such great stature and understanding. With clear goal set, I nod at sensei with a small grin as I tight my grip on the sword.

Well, here I go.

With sword tightly gripped in my right hand, I run towards the blue-haired clone. While I run, I channel my chakra from my core and then to my hand which is received by my sword. As I move closer, I channel my chakra quicker and into a more dense form around the sword. Upon reaching mid-range, I send a kunai taped with flash bomb towards the clone purposefully missing him to the right side of him. As it reaches almost parallel to the clone, the flash bomb explodes causing confusing and loss of sight momentarily to the clone. Taking this as my advantage, I begin my first go at the technique as I raise my sword above and then bring it slashing down while releasing chakra from the sword in a cutting motion. The motion of my chakra released is similar to the wind that is released while performing Wind Sickle technique. The red chakra from the sword reaches to the clone and damages it.

Oh, not very tidy, sorry about that.
So, this technique is a pretty simple one. However, it also has some damage value. So its main advantage is that it is neutral to elemental attacks of same rank. So it can be used to intercept incoming attacks from a safe distance. Similarly, we can also use this technique from slightly difficult locations such as while in mid-air or upside down. It is also a good offensive technique that can be used to swiftly cause damage.
The disadvantage of this technique is that it is straight forward. Even if we keep the real technique hidden with other technique, in the end it is a simple chakra wave of pretty low rank that doesn't cause near enough damage to either defend or kill. This technique is also not useful against Dojutsu users since they can see it all the way.
The way I would use it in a battle would be varying. One of the ways would be if I were to dodge a projectile based attack and I am in a difficult position such as in mid air. Like the way I used it for the first time, I would also cover it behind various array of diversions so that it secures a hit
