well the last time i checked they recover more quickly in soul society + i think that Unohana's ability is to restore reiacu so yea they are at their top game

they put it in, but it doesn't mean they couldn't have recovered. or perhaps that since there were so many they didn't need to put so much in.
remember, when Rukia originally gave Ichigo shinigami powers, she had only intended to give him a portion of her power. that want astray, but that was, as Aizen explained, due to the influence of the Hogyku.
In conclusion, I think the reason is that they all only put in a small portion of their reatsu, or the captains who stayed behind just put in proportionality more.

I get the feeling that all they did was put a small amount of their reiatsu into the sword, and their powers acted like a catalyst to Ichigo's shinigami powers. Rukia even told Ginjou that he only took the top layer of Ichigo's powers, so that makes me think that they just kick-started them back into play.

Or I could completely be wrong, and they may have put a considerable amount of reiatsu into the sword. Reiatsu, in my opinion, is kind of like the Bleach form of chakra. Given some time, they would have recovered.
