I used to use this way until I found out something a little easier and faster to do, thought I'd share here instead of making a new topic(hope you don't mind)

1. Make a selection with the square rectangular tool

2. Select > Modify > Smooth > [enter any amount] pixels(I usually do 10)

3. edit > fill > pick any color
