[Debate] Magic(not stupid tricks)

My question is how come humans consider magic taboo,some say its the work of the devil and if you perform magic you'll end up in hel.

there is sooo much more to it than that.

I grew up in Georgia. They banned Harry Potter from our elementary school when I was a kid because parents were worried that their children would become devil worshipers. Not even kidding

I heard people burned copies of the Harry Potter series for it's depiction of magic, such a ban really doesn't surprise me. People just like to stick to the past for answers, unfortunately.

Well, I don't think anyone lately has seen someone fret over the concept of magic to the point that they want to pull out their torches and pitchforks like back in the olden days.

My opinion, people often fear things they don't understand. Historically, magic has been associated with anything foreign, mysterious, and just plain strange or out of the ordinary. And when society was confronted with this so called "magic", society fought back. Need a historical example, look at the Salem Witch Trials, looking at it today, we see that people were trying to deal with something they didn't understand and associated it with magic, and it came with terrible consequences.

This is just something my mind thought upon with considering this question, just an opinion.

The salem witch trials was more a web of lies than it was based on actual events. People would create complete lies to try to take out their rival. They would just literally make up fictional events. Not so much based on people doing unexplained things(as things in the past were attributed to magic.

Here is what happened a lot.
I dont like that guy. He smells funky, and is just annoying to see around. He always dates the girls I like. He has a better piece of land than I do, and I want it.

"Hey I saw that guy speaking weird noises, and levitating his bowl of water while clouds came from his house! He is a sorceror!"

judges and other people very much hate sorcery and they punish it harshly.

(Meanwhile I get my relatives to testify and claim they saw him doing something with magic. As there is no way for them to find real evidence, They convict the guy on the evidence of multiple testomonies.)

Thus the guy despite doing nothing supernatural, or unexplainable(at the time), was convicted of being a sorceror.

That is more along the lines of the salem witch trials.


A better example would be the vampire/zombie/ witch crazes that went on in the middle ages. Those were things that were unexplainable, that was attributed to magic.

There were still many things people couldn't comprehend during the trials. I'm not saying that's main cause of the trials, I'm just saying it's a contributing factor to the hysteria at the time but I get what you're saying. Also, unlike the aforementioned vampire/zombie/witch craze of the middle ages, I have more knowledge about Salem so I decided to use that as an example instead.
