A while back, I concluded that the Zetsu that Madara created by combining Hashirama's DNA and the Gedo Mazo were actually the souls of the original IT victims. This combination of the 2 resulted in a miniature god tree and the idea was that the Hashirama DNA wasn't actually creating clones of Hashirama, but rather the Senju chakra itself was simply fueling the Gedo Mazou that had been devoid of chakra. This fuel allowed the Mazou to form new bodies for the souls it had held hostage this whole time. This seems to be the conclusion the anime team decided upon as well, and hence why it was in this episode.

However, the episode also created a pretty substantial hole in the theory as well. After defeating and Sealing Kaguya, all her victims were released, seemingly unharmed and none of them had been turned into zetsu. Yet, the manga strongly implies that Kaguya not only succeeded in turning the victims into zetsu, but nearly wiped out the whole planet with it. In this episode, we don't even see Kaguya cast the original IT.

So how does the mazou having leftover IT victims make sense if it was never cast and they were never sacrificed? The ritual of bringing victims to the tree seemed like a simple warm up for the main event, but that main event never occurred. The manga seemed to imply that Kaguya was victories for a time and created an army, but not before letting some of victims go in order to not completely wipe out the human race. It seemed that after some time, the brothers were successful in defeating her, but again that only seemed to happen after IT had been cast and succeeded.

It could just be that the anime got it wrong and didn't show the casting of the IT itself, but its certainly a conundrum in my mind. If anyone has some thoughts on the matter that might clarify things for me, please share. Thank you for reading.

Madara used flower tree and it was zetsu that brought out all the zetsus. The only thing the flower tree did to the zetsus is give them a twig or root level mokuton.
You shouldn't follow that filler considering that Hagormoo created nine bijuus during his son's time and Hamura went to the moon with the otsutsuki clan and not himself.

The episode isn't canon so it's plot shouldn't be used as factual proof concerning the manga. Based on the manga, Kaguya would have used IT when her sons were fully grown, it was around the same time she wanted chakra from everybody.

I think the Sage and Hamura waited some time before fighting Kaguya because they had to research how the genjutsu can be undone. Some people survived while many turned into WZ before they could be saved.

The White Zetsus were originally IT victims but Hashirama's DNA managed to finish their transformation and bring them to life because of his Mokuton affinity, his power continued the transformation process initiated by the Gedo/Shinju.

Don't think about it too much. The anime even contradicts itself.

Hagoromo and Hamura watched their lady friend walk away and a few days later found her dead in a cocoon. Nobody survived the ritual. Everyone in cocoons died, and yet later apparently they're released as if nothing happened.

Filler contradicting filler which contradicts the manga. It's sad.

She did cast IT a few episodes ago but the ppl dangling in this one were let go @,@
You are right. She cast it at the very end of the episode while she was still pregnant and I forgot already. Yet, it doesn't explain the fact that so many people survived being connected to the tree and none were turned into zetsu after all that time.

Exactly, that and the fact that people were attached to the tree for a very long time and yet none of them were turned into zetsu?
