I know that Kishi implies that the Rinnegan is an evolvement to the sharingan...but you cant make this assumption yet.
Madara fought Hashirama so that he could get a sample of Hashirama, his goal was for the future...ie unlocking the Rinnegan. This may have been a factor in him unlocking Rinnegan, not just that it is an upgrade to the sharingan.... so i dont think Sasuke will get the Rinnegan as he wouldnt have senju cells.
Also why everyone saying that his EMS is weak, we have only seen one technique Susano'o, who knows if this is even his fully formed Susano'o, btw Itachis Susano'o is still the only Susano'o that is invincible Yatas Mirror and Sword of Totsuka =). And it is not just a MS that lasts forever...Itachi even says that he unlocked a certain jutsu when he got Izuna's eyes.
Because he used rinnegan after EMS it means its stronger? No, like some1 else said as times progress the power of jutsu can increase, this means that sharingan might be more powerful than rinnegan, as it came at a later date. Itachi Nagato fight is an example of how sharingan is better than Rinnegan. Also would you use a jutsu to save yourself that drains a ton of chakra (izanagi) or use preta path to absorb a ton of chakra? I know what i would use preta of course
