He stated that so6p separated his power into yin (uchiha descendent )and yang (senju descendent).We already know about the elder son and the younger son story stated by Tobi/obito .Obito got all his information about Rikudo past from Madara.Madara plan was to reunite the ying and yang bloodline to become the sage of 6 path but he needed hashirama dna to accomplish his mission.I know madara could have taken any random senju to get the dna but i guess Hashirama dna was special or worthy enough for Madara power hungry personality.Madara probably fight other villages to awaken all his EMS skills or sharingan before he came back to konoha to fight Hashirama.All the other nation have encounter Madara in the past and his name was enough to cause a 4th shinobi war.Obito was pretended to be madara during the kages summit .

People forgot that Madara perfectly can see hashirama wood clones in their final battle.Madara stated that he was the only person who was able to see hashirama clones when he was fighting 5 kages.

If Madara knew that Hashirama use a wood clone to fool Hashirama then this mean Madara fake his death or play along with Hashirama inorder for him to escape the battle eventually .Probably Madara got the Senju DNA he wanted and then used Tsukuyomi/Izanagi to fake his death.

How does one tell if it's a bunshin? Use of the sharingan (and it's multiple levels)!

Did Madara have the sharingan activated? Nope! He was out of Chakra.

Madara failed, but Hashi unknowingly bailed him out by leaving his wood clone there for the taking.
