I think he's just confused. His whole life he was second to Hashirama in everything. He finaly manages to surpass Hashirama and he can't prove it to him.

It's like Tobi said - Madara truly admired and despised Hashirama at the same time.

Look at it as if you trained your whole life to defeat someone and then when you finaly reached his level or surpassed him, he's already dead and all there's left is just bunch of nobodies who can't even kill your boredom. It's not that hard to understand his disappointment.
