What people are lacking is logic, if the 1st and 2nd tried anything oro would have put the seal into them faster or straight away.

He wanted hiruzen to feel the shock in talking to his masters to traumatise him. The guy standing behind the 1st and the 2nd was in control they move, then seals in.

It's the same with itachi and his mum and dad, why didn't the dad run away or fight you ask? because if he moves itachi will have to kill him faster or right away.

Some times you have to think logicly about a situation even when it is a manga, not just why didn't he release him self he should known the seals.

I believe that the 2nd hokage wasn't able to undo the edo tensei was because in madara's case kabuto still gave him his own personality intact meaning that he wasn't being controlled and in the 2nd's case orochimaru binded him completely so he wasn't able to add to his own accord.

This is so SIMPLE to understand and some how there are people out there who can't... Madara had free control over his body because Kabuto never took control over him. Hashirama and Tobirama NEVER had that chance. Oro took control over them from the start. Also, Madara knowing the seals for Edo Tensei is not hard to understand as well. Madara was a Co founder of Konoha and possibly a split leader of the Leaf as well. He obviously was told where the forbidden seals were and he got his hands on it. OR he watched Tobirama perform Edo Tensei and recorded it with his sharigan. Sharigan has the ability to memorize hand seals.

Well Madara knew nagato as he called him "little brat" in 559 who was born during the second ninja war. Tobirama died during the first ninja war. Gives madara plently of time to learn.

The 1st and 2nd didn't release themselves because Oro didn't give them free will the way Kabuto did Madara. Remember how he inserted those tags into the back of their heads?
