I don't understand it either how madara came back to life but the 1st and 2nd hokage couldn't release the jutsu because orochimaru had them fully under his control while kabuto let madara free and do whatever he wants.

In all honesty, they both look good in different ways. The one on the left is obviously just straight from the anime, and yours looks a lot more like art.

The 1st and 2nd didn't release themselves because Oro didn't give them free will the way Kabuto did Madara. Remember how he inserted those tags into the back of their heads?

If you re-watch that episode you'll see that they are in a sort of trance like state immediately after being resurrected and Orochimaru used the tags before they were fully awakened.

Additionally Kabuto had control over his edo's actions (to the extent that they would fight whether they wanted to or not), and he didn't use any tags. It makes it safe to assume that some level of control is maintained by the summoner, regardless of tags.

Okay so the reason that Madara lived trough the release of Edo tensai was because he knew how to release the seal binding him to the user. It makes no sense how he knew how to do that. Since the 2nd Hokage invented Edo tensai, shouldn't he have known everything about it? When the first and second were resurrected why didn't the second use the release? It just doesn't make any sense and since we don't have a definitive timeline for that section then we don't know when Madara originally died, but it seems highly unlikely that he would know more than Tobirama. thoughts?

No. And now I'm gonna write a thread about it. Orochimaru Edo Tensei was completely different because it FULLY CONTROLED the mind of the user. They had no chance to get out of the jutsu.
