I had this theory for a moment when i first time read about their fight.
Madara is too arrogant to lose to Hashirama because of a plan. And if he had won at that time, Hashirama would be dead, so who would opposes the plan? It make no sense after all

And, Madara in a way "cheated" in that fight. So in a way he was the winner, but not the stronger.

Well seeing as how when you awaken EMS, your eyes regain their light, one could even say that awakening Rinnegan does the same. All it takes is some sense and reading the manga

when madara and sasuke got ems their eyes wernt completely dead like after using izanagi they had nearly lost vision but izanagi is different. but im not an expert but I started watching naruto 12years ago and have read every chapter and watched every episode, but that doesn't make me impervious of being wrong so maybe ill go back and reread those parts

In Madara's case, it was stated how he had already lost his "light" and I believe in a flashback (not sure if it was filler or not) Madara was shown just randomly reaching up as though he can't see when he got Izuna's eyes

He might have wanted to pose to the world and Hashirama that he died, so that he could continue his plans in secrecy while the others believed he is dead. So Minamoto is right. But if he's using his argument to say that Madara > Hashirama, then he's wrong.

If Madara can accept and openly state that Hashirama is stronger than him, then that means he is not arrogant. Which means he can lose to him if it were for a plan. And read my above reply as well to LordGamatatsu. Minamoto is not wrong.
