I was thinking this as well...but during their fight when Hashirama appears from the smoke. I believe when the emphasis was put on Madaras sharingan...he cast a genjutsu. Just a thought.

first off madara ems was decatived as he said he was the only one who could see the diff between the clone and the real hashirama with his eyes when the uchiha and senju fought, another good point how do you no that madara didnt let hashirama attack him? as madara survived but hashirama thought 100 percent he was dead

I think he was implying that only his Sharingan could see through Hashirama's Mokubunshins... He didn't have his Sharingan on at the time when Hashirama stabbed him and feinted him with the clone.
