Kishimoto is an awful author, and I wish I spoke Japanese to tell him that.
He wrote himself into a corner - Madara was too powerful to be stopped from any real fight, so he had him one-shotted by Black Zetsu and changed into a woman. It makes absolutely ZERO sense that Madara would not have been able to sense BZ or even stop BZ, especially when you consider he was reacting and beating a S/T when he only had one eye!
So then he gets spit out by a demon and dies laying on the ground with a grand total of two people even remebering he exists. (Oh, and remember now, a dozen or so chapters ago this guy had the world in the palm of his hand)
So why is his death the most tragic? Because nearly his ENTIRE life, he believed in a cause that would save the world, but only ended being a ploy to create a playdoh army. Think about that for a second. His ENTIRE life. Dedicated to something he thought was noble and would bring peace. Only to have FIVE panels ruin his entire's life work - And then we don't hear of him again until he's dying! Unbelieveable.
He doesn't even get the closure that he deserves. Obito, Jiraiya, Neji were all tragic deaths as well. But at least they has some MAJOR closure on what they've done with their lives. Jiraiya even died happily, knowing what he'd accomplished.
But nope, Madara gets none of that. He has two pages of a chat with Hashirama about how he never achieved his dream and much he would have done differently. That's not closure. That's the opposite of closure. He died in this weird limbo between feeling regret for himself and being happy for his friend.
Oh yeah, did I mention that only 2 people recognized he was there?
Kishimoto will never read this, but I have to point out how awful it is. He could have given him a conversation with Izuna. Had him transition to the afterlife like Kakashi did. He could have had more people around to recognize Madara's frustration with his life.
But most of all, he could have NOT killed him, his life dream, and his whole f*cking story in a grand total of 5 panels.

Anyway, he's dead now. In the end, even him was Zetsu's puppet.
