There was a span of over 1000 years between the time of Indra and the time of Madara, and during that time, the Uchiha clan was constantly at war.
Having said that, are you really trying to tell me that not one Uchiha (in a span of over 1000 years) lost a beloved comrade or family member in battle (or did they just not care, and as such, didn't experience the emotional trauma necessary to awaken MS)? That is just nonsense!
I remember how people used to complain that having so many sharingan and MS users was a retcon or an asspull because the sharingan was stated to be rare amongst the Uchiha, but if you ask me, even the statement of sharingan being rare amongst the Uchiha makes no freaking sense and is even more of an asspull!
I could see if Madara was the first known Uchiha to have MS, or the person who made it famous. That would be understandable. However, him actually being the first to awaken it period makes no sense at all.
